The Sermon on the Mount - Ep 10 01.05.2023 20:14 ↓

Chapter 7 begins with another very clear warning to those who are more focused on the righteousness of others instead of their own! Kalvin Johns is with us again this week to help us navigate through the beginning of chapter 7. It's a powerful and challenging text that demands our attention!

The Sermon on the Mount - Ep 9 24.04.2023 20:20 ↓

We're finishing chapter 6 this week...and we've got a special guest on the show; Kalvin Johns. Kalvin preaches for the church in San Francisco and was in town visiting and joined us to share his thoughts on this section of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is going to begin drawing things to a close....but He's still focused on issues of the heart!

The Sermon on the Mount - Ep 8 17.04.2023 22:51 ↓

We start chapter 6 today and Jesus is going to come down hard on hypocrisy! Whether in charitable deeds, praying or fasting, the Pharisees had been guilty of doing these things to be seen by men. When in fact, as Jesus points out, God values sincerity.

As we conclude chapter 5, don't forget what Jesus said in v. 20. The Pharisees are not your standard for righteousness. Love like Jesus loves. Be perfect just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

It's not just about oaths, promises or swearing...it's about integrity. It's about honesty. It's about morality. Jesus wants us to look inward and examine our hearts and look to him as our standard for righteousness.

The Sermon on the Mount - Ep. 5 27.03.2023 18:46 ↓

Continuing in the same line of thought from last week, Jesus uses the marriage relationship to illustrate just how crucial matters of the heart are. Adultery is/was/and will always be sinful! It was one of the commandments! You have to commit adultery to be guilty of adultery, but you don't have to commit adultery to be guilty of sin. Jesus is asking us, again, to look inward and examine our...

Jesus is interested in our hearts. When our hearts are aligned with Him then our actions will follow. The Jews had perverted God's law in such a way that they had begun looking at it backwards....check the boxes and your relationship with God will be what it should. Jesus shakes things up as He begins challenging their way of thinking and their understanding of righteousness!

The Law. Jesus will be accused time and time again of breaking the law, of disrespecting the law...but He makes it very clear at the outset of His ministry that that is not His intention at all!

The Sermon on the Mount - Ep. 2 06.03.2023 19:38 ↓

We continue our study through the sermon on the mount with Jesus pointing to each of us and telling us that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. But what does that mean and what responsibility does that carry?
