Talkin' TV

We've reached it people. What we set out to do all those moons ago, we've finally done. We've made it to...the final season. Dreaded and critically maligned in the three years since its aired, Dom & Pat are aghast to discover that...it's not as bad as people may remember it. Now that's not to say that it doesn't have its fair share of flaws. The main concern seems to come down to Benioff &...

Dom is joined once again by resident Tolkien expert Eli Holicky to break down everything going on in the premiere of Amazon's already maligned prequel series for Lord of the Rings, subtitled the Rings of Power. Amazon bought the television rights for The Lord of the Rings for US$250 million in November 2017, making a five-season production commitment worth at least US$1 billion. This would make it...

We've reached it. One of the biggest moments of the show. The season 7 finale is an episode that has gone down in infamy as one that is both largely important and yet does absolutely nothing for the trajectory of the show. The Dragon & the Wolf alludes to the final alliance between Stark & Targaryen that is announced at the pivotal meeting taking place in the eponymous dragonpit in King's...

We've finally arrived, one of the biggest moments of controversy from the final two seasons of the show, the infamous quest to retrieve the White Walker with the Season 7 penultimate episode, Beyond the Wall! Directed by Alan Taylor, who helped to shape the show in its early days, the bulk of this episode explores Jon Snow & his merry band of men as they trek beyond the wall to carry out their...

We're back with another episode of Talkin' Thrones and things are heating up fast! This episode, titled "Eastwatch" really gets the ball rolling with getting the audiences prepared for the final war to come, with all the characters taking recent developments into consideration as the war with the dead approaches. Daenerys attempts to give fair judgement to the soldiers she spared after the loot tr...

We're back to Westeros in podcast format this time with the premiere of the first Game of Thrones spinoff/prequel, "House of the Dragon." Created by Ryan Condal & Thrones alumni Miguel Sapochnik, the show takes place 172 years before the rise of Daenerys Targaryen, while House Targaryen still ruled Westeros, focusing on the reign of King Viserys Targaryen I (Paddy Considine) who faces a politi...

With the vastly shortened season, we hit the midpoint a lot sooner than I thought, and boy is it a doozy. Building off the monumental events of last weeks episode, "The Spoils of War" is an interesting case, because its the next in a line of steps that Benioff & Weiss were taking to further the pacing of the show than they ever had before, with the next stage in the war for Westeros occuring w...

The dream team is here to bid adieau to another show. After 6 seasons, 2 gap years, one bonus movie and its lead actor suffering a heart attack, Better Call Saul has wrapped up its extravagant final season with something that is safe to say has surprised the world in the best way possible. Starting out as a joke in the writer's room of "Breaking Bad," "Better Call Saul" has evolved into a cantanke...

We're already halfway through Season 7, as we approach one of the best episodes that occured in the latest part of the show's run, Season 7, Episode 3, "The Queen's Justice." This was a monumental episode for several different reasons, the most notable one being that this episode finally saw the long awaited first meeting between Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen, with Jon arriving at Dragonstone...

Who knew that delivering a fun, action-comedy set on a high speed train would get negative reviews? Dom is joined by Kristen aka Ms. Filmingo & Luk of Luk Reviews to discuss one of the most high octane films of the year, David Leitch's fourth solo film "Bullet Train." Set on a high speed rail on its way from Tokyo to Kyoto, the film follows trained killer Ladybug, who wants to give up the life...

We're really into the action now with Season 7, Episode 2 "Stormborn." The episode begins with Tyrion recapping the audience that the storm happening at the beginning of the episode is symbolic of Daenerys' forthcoming fury she's about to bring to Westeros. After she only makes a brief appearance at the end of last week's episode, Daenerys is back in Westeros and ready to bring the fire and the bl...

We took a break from content this week, or rather content took a break from us, as Dom & Chris finally reunite after several weeks apart to talk about the current state of the streaming wars! Summer of 2022 has certainly been an interesting one for content, with people wanting to be nowhere near their television sets or the movie theaters after 2 years stuck inside. They talk about all the cha...

We're in the home stretch people! We're officially onto the final 13 episodes of our very long Talkin' Thrones recap series! We started this season back in April of last year while the pandemic was still in semi-full effect because we wanted to take the chance to break down every minute of one of the biggest and best shows of the last decade and figure out what went wrong. Well, we've reached the...

We get a little different, a little weird and a little experimental today. But it's for a Jordan Peele movie, so it's to be expected. Dom the Movie Nerd is joined by his friend from college Takeena Strachan to discuss the third feature film from Jordan Peele. At one point a staple of Comedy Central with his sketch show Key & Peele, Jordan Peele has evolved into one of the most daring and exper...

We've made it to another one, and we've also reached an important milestone. The season 6 finale, "The Winds of Winter" still to this day remains one of the biggest and most important episodes of the entire show. It sets the course for the final two seasons, wraps up all the ancellary storylines, proved that the show had officially become the biggest show on the air at the time, and in particular...

Dom is joined by Joe of Guy at the Movies and Brandon Fallat to discuss the very long, but worthwhile wrap up for Season 4 of Stranger Things, arguably the biggest and most expansive season of the show yet. The show has come a long way since its inception back in 2016, and a lot has changed. The characters are a lot older, the stakes are higher than they ever have been before, and the biggest exam...

We've made it to another gangbusters episode. Arguably one of the two biggest episodes of the entire show, not to mention that this is probably the only season of the show where the penultimate and final episodes are of equal caliber in terms of how awesome they are. "Battle of the Bastards" still remains arguably the most technically proficient episodes of the entire show, with Miguel Sapochnik &...

After we took off for our Fourth of July Festivities, we're back with another Marvel movie! It's the middle of the summer, and Dom & Chris are joined once again by Matt of Basic Entertainment & Joe of Guy at the Movies to discuss the fourth film in the Thor series and the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Love & Thunder! Taika Waititi returns to the directing chair and...

And the one that no one's been looking forward to, see what I did there? This episode is infamous as another 8th episode that feels like a penultimate to the penultimate, wrapping up a lot of the ancellary storylines before we move on to the explosive climax that is Battle of the Bastards & Winds of Winter. The only problem? This is the episode where it really feels like D&D gave up. While...

The sideplots continue with Season 6, Episode 7, "The Broken Man." This episode is special for a variety of different reasons, but namely, because it features the return of a fan favorite character who was previously thought dead by many, Sandor "The Hound" Clegane. The episode chronicles his stay with a small commune of Riverland civilians led by the charismatic Brother Ray, portrayed in a guest...

We return with another episode of Talkin' Thrones, the second of two parts covering all the subplots that weren't covered in last week's episode, very similar to how it played out last season. What's so interesting about Season 6 is that despite it being the most critically appealing, arguably the most commercially successful and probably the most mainstream the show had been up to that point, peo...

Join Dom, Chris, Nathaniel & Brandon as we break down the brand new Elvis Presley biopic from Baz Luhrmann! Announced in 2014, the project was not officially announced until March 2019. Butler was cast in the title role that July, beating out several other actors, including Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Harry Styles for the part. Then we break down Obi-Wan Kenobi in it's entirety, what it sig...

We've made it to yet another midpoint, and boy is this one a doozy. Building off the last couple episodes, this is where the tension and the action really takes off, with the episode ending with a shocking, out of nowhere battle as we witness the end of the Three Eyed Raven & the Children of the Forest, the beginning of Bran's ascent to the new position of Three Eyed Raven, the death of anothe...

Join us for this very special livestream in which Chris & Dom are joined once again by Eli Holicky to break down not only one of their favorite shows, but quite possibly one of the best shows on the air with their review of Barry Season 3! This season went to some dark places, and they break it all down, from Barry's mad quest for redemption to Sally's descent into darkness to Gene & Hank'...

We're back with another episode of Talkin' Thrones, and its a big one today, Season 6, Episode 4, "Book of the Stranger." It can become easy to forget about some of the smaller moments that help set up for the larger, more memorable moments like Battle of the Bastards, or even something like the Door next episode, but its episodes like these that are so crucial, because they help to directly set u...
