The single greatest force in Jim's road to dealing with his depression was his mom, Pat Maley. He may have never sought the treatment he needed if not for the support of both his parents. Jim's mom was also the one who encouraged him to share his story, and she is the reason he continues the quest to help others.

Jim was a freshman starter for the Northwestern Wildcats basketball team, when depression knocked him to the ground.
