The Big Boo Cast

Well, it's the best of college football times for Melanie, the worst of college football times for me - and a straight-up soap opera for anyone keeping their eye on the coaching carousel. We talk about all of these things on this episode (Melanie Shankle is ON A HIGH, my friends), as well as our time together in San Antonio for the live show (and an aggressive amount of Mexican food). We also foll...

This past week Melanie drove all over Texas with Caroline, I went to a family wedding, and we both managed to absorb way more college football content than medical professionals might advise. We talk about all of the above on this episode - as well as the fact that we're gearing up Thursday night's live show in San Antonio. October has proven to be quite a time. There are also Side Eyes and I See...

This week - in a bit of a super-sized episode - our friend Cole Cubelic joins us for some mid-season college football discussion, and needless to say, it is a delight to hear him share about what we've learned and what we're still learning about teams at this point in the season. Plus, there are Side Eyes & I See Yous a-plenty after this most recent weekend of football shenanigans, and Melanie...

This year's Big Boo Bowl went to the Aggies (in an especially dominant second half, I would add), so this week Melanie and I discuss her time in College Station, which included our friend Cole visiting Honey and Big's house before the football game. I share what it was like to enjoy a college football Saturday from the comfort of a Delta flight, and Melanie offers her reaction to the new Taylor Sw...

It was almost-but-not-quite this past weekend for my Mississippi State Bulldogs, so this week Melanie and I discuss the sort-of-moral-victory along with other developments in college football's very exciting week five. Naturally there are Side Eyes, there are I See Yous, and there is speculation about the State / A&M showdown coming up this Saturday at Kyle Field. Also, I share about our curre...

On this week's episode, Melanie and I have a lengthy discussion about college football (raise your hand if you're surprised), including the big games for the Aggies and the Bulldogs later this week (don't worry, Auburn fans - we do not neglect sharing our reactions to this past weekend's unfortunate incident during your OU game). On top of that, we recap our beach trip and get a somewhat sad updat...

It was quite a weekend for the Bulldogs and the Aggies, so on this episode (from the beach!) Melanie and I talk through our football thoughts and feelings, complete with Side Eyes and I See Yous. And in a development we didn't expect, we got to watch the Emmys together this past Sunday night, so we break down some of that as well.  We also mourn the loss of our beloved Hazel - man, that has been a...

This is an extra long episode thanks to Mississippi State's football stunner and my trip to the Mississippi Delta. I mean, WHAT A TIME, everyone. The Bulldogs got a signature win against Arizona State, and everything from the uniforms to the crowd to the social media to the CATCHING OF THE FOOTBALL was absolutely fantastic. Naturally Melanie and I break down all of my thoughts and reactions to the...

The first big weekend of the 2025 college football season did not disappoint, and on this episode Melanie and I discuss some of our favorite parts (not to mention our Side Eyes and I See Yous). It didn't hurt that both the Aggies and the Bulldogs were victorious, though admittedly, those wins weren't necessarily pretty. On top of that, Melanie offers an update on Caroline's new Costco membership,...

Well, our kids are back at school once again, so apparently (this week, at least), Melanie and I  have some freed up mental space to clock a collection of mild frustrations and also grievances. We discuss them, of course, along with a couple of internet-y things that have recently brought me all manner of joy. We also share some anticipation about college football ('TIS THE SEASON), and it's Melan...

On this week's episode Melanie and I recap our (very brief) time together in Nashville, we talk about all the reading I've done over the past week (it's obnoxious, really), and we discuss a couple of takeaways from the most recent round of RushTok (all the balloons at the University of Arkansas really made an impression on us).  We also break down my first attempt at playing mahjong, and it's my t...

This week Melanie shares all about her fun weekend at the lake, I share all about cleaning out my refrigerator (life is full of glamour and also thrills), and we both share about the season finale of The Gilded Age (spoiler alert: WE ADORED IT).  We also do a quick analysis of groceries we throw away more often than not as well as dig into some of our recent thoughts about plastic surgery. Plus, i...

On this week's episode Melanie and I discuss her flounder gigging experience, my (two!) trips to Mississippi, and a dessert at Bayonet here in Birmingham that absolutely blew my mind. Plus, we talk about some music we've loved lately and our shared delight about a new Hollywood couple.  If that weren't enough (it probably isn't, but oh well - we tried), it's my turn for Five Favorites. Enjoy, ever...

Since our last episode I've been to New York City, Melanie has been to Nashville, and we both have stories to share. Truth be told, I sort of nerd it up this week as I share about the Broadway shows we saw on our trip, so please bear with me if that's not your sort of thing. MRS. HUDSON'S LITERARY CUP IS FULL.  We also talk through a creative idea from Perry, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favor...

This week Melanie and I ponder the reality of technically being old enough to be grandmothers (we know it's a wonderful thing, but we're just not there yet) - which really makes Melanie's tale of her recent wedge-adjacent injury all the more timely (and perhaps painful). We also discuss some of the highlights of last week's SEC Media Days as well as the delight that is the new Billy Joel documenta...

On this episode Melanie and I talk about - wait for it - COLLEGE FOOTBALL. It's the week of SEC Media Days, and that always sparks a little football reflection (and also hope!) in the two of us. Given that, we enjoy a little pre-season analysis of A&M's September schedule before we recap our weekends and discuss a movie that we both unexpectedly adored. What a time. Melanie also brings some ro...

Our hearts are so heavy for everyone who has been impacted by the devastation of the Texas flooding, and we talk about that at the beginning of this episode. We didn't know how to transition into our normal brand of silliness without addressing it, and we're praying that the presence and the comfort of the Lord will be so palpable for everyone who is hurting. Jesus, be near. We also talk about my...

I'm on the Atlantic Ocean somewhere between Canada and Maine this week (Melanie opted out of the trip because of the aforementioned ocean), so we recorded this episode before I left Birmingham, and we asked our friend Cole Cubelic - who is one of our all-time favorite people - to join us. As some of you may remember, Melanie and I met Cole a couple of years ago after he saw us at an event where my...

This week Melanie and I talk through our reactions to the College World Series (Razorbacks, we feel your pain, and Tigers, we congratulate you), we break down what's been going on in our respective lives over the past week, and we share some delight over all the good television that's been released since we last recorded.  We also discuss the fact that Melanie ordered some chicken on the bone at a...

On this week's episode Melanie and I talk about the fact that Caroline is now home from her long European journey, I sampled the most delicious homemade pies, and why we shouldn't underestimate Gen Z's persistence in selecting the perfect nail polish colors. It's been an eventful week.  We also have an unplanned - but lively!  - discussion about AI, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. Enjoy, ever...

This week Melanie and I have lots of Super Regional developments to discuss, along with what I am referring to as Mississippi State's First Official Baseball Pageant as we welcomed our new baseball head coach Brian O'Connor. We also talk about a new Birmingham restaurant favorite and Melanie's awareness of her challenges with European geography. On top of all that, I get in my feelings a little bi...

As you might expect on this episode, Melanie and I have a lot to say about this past weekend's college baseball regionals (if you're not aware, there were some incredible underdog stories in the field of 64). We also talk about State's baseball coach news (very exciting!) before we consider all the things we don't know or understand about this current generation of toddlers.  On top of that, Melan...

Well, 'tis the season for NCAA baseball regionals, so this week Melanie and I discuss the fact that the Bulldogs are headed to Tallahassee, and we also briefly analyze the SEC uniforms this season (you may be surprised by the team I have designated as the uniform winner). Plus, we talk about Mel's adventures with getting Caroline's suitcase(s) packed for Europe and the complications that arise whe...

This week Melanie is helping Caroline get ready for her Europe trip, I'm gearing up for the SEC Baseball Tournament, and we're both feeling mildly fascinated by the Busch Apple phenomenon. We talk about all of the above, of course, as well as what we've watched this past week (I'm really having to process my feelings about The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives).  We also discuss some Mississippi-adjace...

This past week has given Melanie and me plenty to talk about: Caroline Shankle graduated from A&M, Alex Hudson traveled to Japan, and Hazel had a whole vet exam in the back of my car. Life comes at you fast, friends. In addition to all of that, there have been some college baseball developments. For better or worse. We also discuss what we've been watching (of course), and it's Melanie's turn...
