The DC3cast!

The boys love their music chats, and so we are introducing a new monthly bonus episode where we look back on a year of our lives and discuss our top three albums that we listened to in that year. No correcting for current taste, no shame, just pure music nostalgia for when Zach was 13.

Travel with the boys back to 1999, when Geoff Johns was manning his first event for DC Comics! "Day of Judgment" takes place on Earth, in Heaven, and in Hell, and features a fascinating cast of post-"Zero Hour" DC heroes and villains.

The boys dig into "Dark Nights: Death Metal" #2, focusing on things like the Batom, a lovely reunion, and a wonderfully wacky final page.

The long-promised new comics roundup episode is here! The boys check in on "Batman," "DCeased: Dead Earth," a few of the 80th anniversary specials, and a few Bendis issues. Spoiler alert: Brian and Zach liked new comics! Somehow, Vince didn't pass out from shock.

Brian welcomes Tom Scioli, writer/artist of "Jack Kirby: The Epic Life of the King of Comics," a new book from Ten Speed Press, to the show. We talk about Jack Kirby's time at DC Comics, the enduring legacy of Kirby at DC, and Scioli's "Super Powers" backups at Young Animal.

The boys take a deep dive into Elseworlds with the modern classic "Kingdom Come" and its sequel, the rarely discussed "The Kingdom." Topics discussed include the hollow spirituality, the great costume design, and Vince's overwhelming belief that "Dark Nights: Death Metal" will reintroduce Hypertime to the DCU.

Resurrection Man, Martian Manhunter, and Kyle Rayner take the spotlight in our third, and final, week of "DC One Million."

The boys continue their journey through the 853rd century with this second week of "DC One Million" books. This week, we get some mediocre Bat-books, a fun, but disconnected, "Green Arrow" story, and, perhaps, the worst book in the whole event.

The boys looks at the topsy-turvy nature of DC Comics at the moment, and each of us decided how we wanted to reboot DC right now: no more than 20 books, no (real) continuations of current stories, and the sky's the limit.

The DC3cast returns with (another) bonus episode! We go page by page through "Dark Nights: Death Metal" #1, including conversations about burgers, Black Lanterns, Batmen, and [clears throat] big dick energy.

The boys embark on a three-part journey into "DC One Million," the first DC event under the watchful eye of Grant Morrison. Topics discussed include the majesty of "Starman," a stop over at the Tom Grummett Appreciation Society, and a short, but satisfying, Talking Heads riff.

Brian, along with Tim Adams from CBR and Andrew Dyce from Screen Rant, chat with Scott Snyder on the eve of the release of "Dark Nights: Death Metal" #1.

The boys plow ahead with their 'Crisis Management' series, tackling John Byrne and Ron Wagner. Topics discussed include: the Ravers getting left for dead, phasing atom bombs through one's butt, and just how little happens in this four issue miniseries.

Our friend/Robots from Tomorrow cohost Greg Matiasevich joins the show to discuss Karl Kesel and Stuart Immonen's "The Final Night." Topics discussed include: 90s costumes rendered beautifully, a villain-less event, and the majesty of the original Kyle Rayner run.

The boys revisits an event with a lot of connections to the recent 'Year of the Villain' at DC - "Underworld Unleashed!" Mark Waid and Howard Porter bring us into Hell, give us a compelling Captain Marvel story, and hinge a big piece of plot on landing 'meaty, leading rolls.'

Last week, Brian got on the phone with Scott Snyder to discuss the upcoming first issue of "Dark Nights: Death Metal," his most recent collaboration with Greg Capullo. Hear about Sgt. Rock, a T-Rex Batman, and so much more.

The boys dig into the book that inspired the expanded 'Crisis Management' series, "Zero Hour!" They look back on the series which launched a lot of great comics, but suffers from a lot of nothing happening and weird decisions. Come for Parallax, stay for three versions of the same Legion of Super-Heroes character!

For the bonus episode for May, we take a look at the first three chapters of DC's new Digital First offerings. Topics discussed include: weirdly conflating Batman with the military, a good new Flash villain, and the generally dull offerings from this line.

This week, the boys dig into 'Trinity.' No, not the Matt Wagner prestige miniseries. And, no, we don't mean the weekly series from 2008. Despite what you may have heard us rave about after one issue, we also aren't covering the 'Rebirth' series. Nope, we are talking about the crossover between "Green Lantern," "Darkstars," and "L.E.G.I.O.N. '93" that brought DC's cosmic books together.

The boys dig deep into 'War of the Gods,' one of the best crossovers in DC's history. Topics discussed include: George Pérez's stellar "Wonder Woman" run, the seemingly endless deities in the DC Universe, that weird time when Power Girl was Atlantean, and Steve Trevor's other love.

"Armageddon 2001" starts off incredibly strong, before going impossibly off the rails. Topics discussed include: 900 numbers, Mallrats and superhero sex, the most insufferable version of Wally West, good Jurgens art, a dystopian future replete with floppy disks, and lots more. 

1988's second DC event is about as far, tonally, from the first as possible. "Invasion" is a cosmic adventure from Keith Giffen, Bill Mantlo, and [checks notes] Todd McFarlane, and it does a lot of really interesting things. Plus, an error-filled discussion about the Darkstars!

Back in January, we covered "Cosmic Odyssey" as a sort of proto-episode of 'Crisis Management.' Because "Cosmic Odyssey" would be the next book in our major event list, we are rebroadcasting that episode today. We'll be back with a new episode on Wednesday, covering "Invasion." This week, the boys tackle 1988's "Millennium," which is one of the weirder events that we've read in our many, many years of comic book fandom. Topics discussed include: Jeff Dunham, the Konami Code, attrition in New Guardians, and the bizarre, and sad, fates of literally everyone in Smallville.
