The Crossing Church Sermons

We must go to God in prayer in light of the Gospel. To best do that there are some quetions to answer: - Who is God? - What has He done? - Who are we? - What are we to do?

Why do we as followers of Jesus engage with God in the Bible? How can we puruse God through the Scriptures rightly? God has chosen to be known, He has revealed Himself through Jesus and His Word, we are a people who are made alive and sustianed through Jesus and His Word, and so we engage deeply and consistently. Empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus came to give sight to the blind. When he opens our eyes we see his goodness, and we follow.

In one of the most gospel explicit passages in the Scriptures, Jesus not only gives a detailed prediction of his death and resurrection, but he also teaches his disciples about true greatness through humility and service as He himself demonstrated by giving his life as a ransom to set us free from sin so we could be humble and serve others.

In this well known story Jesus is approached by a rich young ruler who looks to Jesus to validate his good life. Jesus instead confronts and exposes his idolatry, reveals the power of God to save, and reveals Himself as our greatest treasure.

Do we believe the gospel like a child?

Jesus' view on marriage and divorce not only went against religious teaching of his day but elevated marriage to the place God intended it. It's still controversial today in increasing ways but marriage is a beautiful picture of the gospel if we will treaure and view it as the One who created it does Himself. Be encouraged.

In the Transfiguration, Jesus pulls back the veil of His humanity and gives his disciples and us a glimpse of His glory and willingness to go and suffer on the cross. He goes with His disciples to Jerusalem showing his presence with us in our discipleship.

Mark's gospel turns toward Jerusalem and the Cross as Jesus is for the first time confessed as Messiah by one of his followers which leads to the hard calling of disicpleship to live out a personal, public, submissive, and sacrificial faith.

Through 4 stories in Mark 8, we see Jesus continuing to do the hard work of teaching and correcting his disciples. It is a good work and a work that will be completed.

Flowing from our identity in Jesus, what does it look like to be on a mission as a disciple of Jesus to make disciples.

We take a look at the very familiar story of Jesus feeding the multitude of people. Who is this miracle worker? How does this apply to us?

Jesus calls us to join Him on mission to proclaim the Gospel in word and power. A gospel that will offend some. We go and join Him in His work.

In light of the events in our nation this past week how do we as God's people move forward in a very broken world with humility, courage, and hope?

In Christ we find hope like no other. We put our hope in other things only to be left disappointed, but Jesus knows all our needs. He has done all that is necessary to give us our greatest need, life from death.

Just as Jesus calmed the angry storm on the sea, so He calmed the storm of demons in the man of Gerasenes. In the same way, Jesus has come to calm the storm of sin, Satanic attack and the inner battles we face.
