When we strive to live a life worthy of our invitation into the Kingdom, we will face resistance. When the resistance comes we need to stand our ground. We stand our ground when we put on the "full armor of God" and pray together .

A Roman soldier did not fight alone. He put on full battle armor and joined other soldiers in a variety of formations when facing an enemy. One formation in particular, the "testudo", seems to provide a rich metaphor for Paul in his final word for us as we "put on the full armor of God" and together resist "the fiery arrows of the evil one."

First Century slavery was considered a "social reality" by early Christians. They were not in a position to set slavery aside legally so they overcame it with both the "brotherhood in ἀγαπη" and "the redeeming act of Jesus."
