It is easy to over simplify this story and see it as Gods blanket promise to overcome all the challenges in our lives according to our plans and our timing. In context, it is more about David, as anointed king, revealing his faith in Gods absolute capacity to overcome any challenges against His good and eternal purposes.

In a world that is on 24/7, we can find ourselves quite tired and disoriented. Rather than simply be pulled by these cultural currents, God invites us to recover the practice of Sabbath. As we understand its intention, we begin to see the incredible gift from God that it is.
