To know Christ is not about theory or theology; it is to know him with such intimacy that in the end we are as united with him as we experience the power of His resurrection and share in His sufferings.

There are three distinct portraits from Christ's letter to the seven churches. The first is of Jesus Himself, our loving Savior and reigning King. Second, His sanctified Bride, without spot or wrinkle, that she might be holy and without blame. And finally, the incredible promises Jesus makes to those who overcome.

The conceit of the Laodicean church resulted in a skewed assessment of themselves. They thought they were rich, prosperous, and self-sufficient, but Jesus said they were wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.

God has a secret place and He wants us to dwell with Him there, for He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.

Imagine if you were a part of the church in Sardis when Jesus said, "you have a reputation for being alive, but you are really dead and He's not found any of your works to be complete." Is Jesus saying the same thing to His church today?

Heresy is bad. The church in Thyatira had tolerated it, and that was just as bad. What influence have we allowed into the church, without firmly standing against it and calling out its deception?
