Jesus welcomes to His table not only sinners, but also the proud. Fr. Paul shows in Luke 15 how elder sons, too, are lost. When we believe we deserve more than others, we show ourselves to be bitter and blind, yet even so, we are beloved of God.

By eating with sinners, Jesus shows us who His Father is. Our God is amazingly gracious, running to redeem us and restore us to our unearned place in His house.

Why does Jesus welcome sinners and eat with them? When Jesus looks at a headstrong and hell-bound sinner, He sees a lost child who wants to go home. Luke 15:1-3,11-17.
