Ukraine has surprised the Russian military by slowing them down and preventing a blitzkrieglike takeover of the country. Marc Werman interviews Oleksiy Nozdrachov, an academic-turned-fighter from the Central Military Science and Research Institute of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, about their army's capabilities and what the fight for Kyiv and other cities looks like.

Turkey Black Sea policy 28.02.2022

Over the weekend, Turkey’s foreign minister announced that the country would invoke a section of a 1936 treaty that regulates two strategic straits during wartime. That means that warships from Russia and Ukraine cannot pass through Turkey’s two key waterways: the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles Straits, which open to the Mediterranean, unless they’re returning to port.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that 500,000 people have fled Ukraine in recent days on a mass exodus to the eastern edge of the European Union, which shows no signs of stopping. The world is hitting some limits with climate change adaptation 28.02.2022

Some natural systems are no longer able to adapt successfully to a warming world, including coral reefs, Arctic and high-mountain ecosystems.
