Your Daily Dose with Bob and Nick

Doing research is critical to telling a good story, especially if you're reporting the news. In this episode, Nick tells Bob about a recent story he did for the Community Paper about juice cleanses in which he already decided how the story was going to go, but then the research led to a different conclusion.

Happy New Year from Your Daily Dose! As is our tradition on the last Friday of the month, Bob and Nick present some of their favorite short conversations, microdoses you might say, and put them together for your listening pleasure. It’s themed for the holidays too! They discuss the Grinch and the Whos, football with friends, and everyone’s annual tradition of getting matching tattoos.

Children are great. But the experiences we have with them sometimes aren’t. While Bob and Nick both think the teenage years are tough, it’s probably because they’re giant kids themselves. They related to the tiny tykes, and they didn’t want them to grow up. Hearing Bob talk about his adult kids and the relationship they have gives Nick a lot of hope.

In case you missed all of Nick's references to Star Trek: TNG, dedicating an episode to the names of space ships or pitching his qualifications as a deep-space astronaut , you should know that he's a sci-fi fan. On this episode, he tells Bob about rewatching a science fiction classic, or rather, a sequel to a sci-fi classic, and an indelible impression one scene left on him.

You know how sometimes you're super-wealthy and assume that means you know everything? It turns out Bob and Nick believe in architects, actual trained and professional architects, and not super-wealthy people who hold donations hostage until they get to pretend to be architects .

Have you ever gone down a Wikipedia rabbit hole? Sometimes, they lead to a time vortex. You look up one thing then somehow, suddenly it's 3am and you’ve gone through all of the Orlando Magic draft picks of the last 25 years. Sometimes, you read something that inspires you. Like many people, Nick gets a little anxious when it comes to parties, especially if there are a lot of people he doesn’t know all that well. So it’s unlikely that he would ever have a holiday party for his neighbors. Bob and his wife Patti are the types of people to do such a thing, but there was still a little bit of trepidation to this get-together.

With all this talk of Santa’s list, Bob and I thought it would be a good time to share some stories about being nice. You’re not going to get any extra presents, you may even not get recognition for what you’ve done, but it’s important, and every once in a while you may teach someone a valuable lesson.

Bob and Nick discuss their favorite Christmas gifts. Bob remembers his fondly. Nick can only recall the most disappointing one.

In this episode, Bob and Nick introduce or reintroduce you to the idea of a salon. It’s a gathering of people, like a party, but with the intention of education on a particular topic or topics. To have one, you usually have to have an inspiring and charismatic host. That’s where Bob comes in.

In another attempt to find things they disagree about, Nick and Bob find themselves agreeing on more things. Are they avoiding conflict, or does the nature of "yes and" improv prevent opportunities for conflict? Yes!
