Like many who are weary and toiled I’m not even sure what day it is. It is like we are stuck in the worst version of the move Groundhog Day, ever to be imagined. Every day is the same.

The last few days have been a game of chance around here. Will the diesel engines start today, or will the wheel fall off the wagon and leave us stranded?

National Milk Day, not to be confused with World Milk Day, is celebrated on January 11 to commemorate the first delivery of milk to homes in America back in 1878. Before this time there were not sanitary methods to package and transport milk throughout cities and towns.

One piece of legislation that is receiving positive vibes from both sides of the aisle is an interest to better help rural America with its lack of childcare. The bipartisan, bicameral Expanding Childcare in Rural America (ECRA) Act of 2023 aims to improve the availability and quality, and lower the cost, of childcare in agricultural and rural communities.

Nothing warms the soul like the sun coming out after a storm. That should probably be on a greeting card or a t-shirt somewhere.

In case you are wondering what livestock producers are thinking this week, I have compiled a list of general thoughts that most of us have running through our head. We might not say them out loud, but it is definitely a window into our psyche.

In the meantime, I think we can all thank the American dry edible bean farmers this weekend by partaking in the fruits of their labor. So start that big pot of chili cooking and don’t forget to add the beans!

About 84 percent of all U.S. farm households earn the majority of their total household income from off-farm sources and often use off-farm income to cover some portion of farm expenses. While self-employment and wage/salary jobs are the primary sources of off-farm income for farm households, unearned off- farm income sources provide a significant share of off-farm income relative to total off-far...

We are in that sort of sweet spot on the ranch, if you can call doing chores in the cold of January a sweet spot. The days are pretty predictable for the most part and there is a rhythm to them.

And may we all work towards peace on Earth and goodwill towards others. Happy New Year from all of us at Your Ag Network.

In celebration of making it through another year, I wanted to share some fun facts about me in 2023!   It was a year of learning more about myself and setting new boundaries and goals.

Heading into the new year there is no doubt that farm and ranch country will have their eye on Washington DC pressing their lawmakers to finish the task at hand, the next Farm Bill. But that may be too tall of a challenge given the current political climate.

There is a whole world waiting outside for kids to explore. It does not require fancy equipment or paid memberships. It just requires the will to open the door and step out!

According to the Child Mind Institute the average American child is in front of a screen 5-8 hours a day and is only outside engaging in unstructured play 4-7 minutes a day.

I’m saying a big ole thank you to everyone who is doing their part to do their best today. It is just all so awesome, and it warms this gal's heart in a big way! So don’t forget to spread kindness and thanks to those around you today!
