In this parable Jesus teaches us to live with an eternity oriented mindset, where we use money and material possessions for his Kingdom saving purposes. 

Jesus teaches three parables in a row about lost things. The reason He does this is to reveal a part of the heart of God: God's heart is to seek and save the lost. Is that your heart too?
