It's Part 1 of our reread of The Light Fantastic! We're putting on our intellectual hats this week and talking about relevant topics like Sapir-Whorf, post-modern interpretations of King Arthur, misuse of archaeological terms, and whether Rincewind and Twoflower are boning! We are making a list of famous people we hate, and it's all of them.

An hour after Edward Colston drowned we recorded a podcast about funny Rincewind.

We are going back to where it all began and read the first half of The Colour of Magic. Is this a good introduction to the Discworld series? How many times has Ankh-Morpork burned? And what's up with Death?

We finished Guards Guards! So, obviously what you all wanted was for us to use this book as a jumping off point to talk about communism for like an hour, which is what we did. Topics include: rocket dragons, fried food, Kierkegaardian existentialism. Happy Glorious 25th of May!

People say that polite conversation should stay away from politics, religion and cryptids... in which case call us uncivilised because that's all we talk about for the first 20 minutes. Eventually we do get on to the middle third of the book 'Guards! Guards!', in which dragons are still causing trouble, Vimes is realising he's in detective fiction and Nobby is learning to social climb.

We four meet again to discuss the first 100 pages of 'Guards! Guards!', and it's good! We meet the sad, sad remains of the watch (and try to figure out if they're himbos)as well as morally neutral Lord Vetinari. We also talk about the Ankh-Morpork branch of the Freemasons. Did we mention something about ideology?
