Whiskey Under 50

Scotch Whiskys are known for being expensive, so finding selections under $50 to represent the  style is a challenge.  Amy, in a quest to find some cheaper Scotch whiskys, brings over a Creag Isle and an Aberlour for us to try. But are bargain Scotch any good? Bonus: hear us stumble through the 5 Scotch regions! 

Occasionally we do have to take some time off, and when we do we hit distilleries! Jonathan and Amy take a trip to Oregon where they discover Freeland Distilling and Nathan finds himself in Driggs Idaho at Grand Teton Distilling.   Do vacation whims stand up to being brought back to reality?

We try some boutique style 2021 batch 1 from Castle and Key, a resurrected distillery, once doomed by Prohibition,  and Jonathan surprises the rest of us with a mystery whiskey that could not be more out of character for him.

Scotch presents a challenge finding a good quality under the $50 mark.  For this, we go to those redrawing the line between quality and value. Can the new offering from Trader Joe's knock down the Kirkland Signature Scotch? We also throw in a surprise tasting at the end.

We go back and recap what we've tasted over the past 9 episodes and argue over the top 10 whiskeys we've tried so far. 

Two bold rye whiskeys come together for this week's matchup of the Rittenhouse Rye and the Pikesville Rye. 

It's a battle of the mild ryes as we sample some Old Forester Rye and Wild Turkey 101 Rye.  

We take a stroll through the wheat fields and compare some Bernheim Original with the David Nicholson 1843 (the white label). 

We go rye and compare the Templeton rye 6 year to the Old Overholt with the black cap (not to be compared to that new stuff with the red cap - I'm sure we'll get to that later). 

We go island hopping and compare some Glenlivet Caribbean and Dewars 12 year.

Nathan reminisces about Ghost Owl and tries to compare it to Pendleton Rye (12 year). 

Jonathan brings in some Pendleton and excites us all by also bringing in some Canadian Club. 

Amy shares a whiskey from her youth and puts it up against McGregor's own Proper No 12.
