Legal Documents every First Responder needs with Wendy K Reynolds 10.03.2021

Oof. That's a rough subject line, right? This week we tackle a confusing topic: legal documents. Wendy K Reynolds is an expert in Estate Planning and, as we learn from this episode of What's Your Emergency...

Dr. Sharon Grossman and the 7E Solution to Burnout 24.02.2021

Burnout in the disciplines is real. We all know it. Ask WYE - Issue 56 - Our DUI Experience 17.02.2021

In true WYE-fashion, we turn the tables on the week's Ask WYE. While recording a future episode with our guest, we started talking about our past experiences with DUI. No, not  committing them. Arresting them and then prosecuting them. MC took the chance to take the show down a rabbit hole and got our guest, Wendy Reynolds, to give her perspective as a former district attorney. You'll le...

During these challenging times (Aren't you sick of getting those emails?), Battalion Chief Tom Bouthillet saw an opportunity to improve EMT and Paramedic education and decided not to just watch it go by. The result was an entirely online education program that offered 30 hours of Continuing Credit Units for providers stuck at home due to Covid restrictions. And he didn't just read some s...

Ask 55 - LODD Survivor Benefits - 2221 9.58 AM 03.02.2021

Listener Teri fired a question to Justin at Justin@WYERadio.com asking about benefits for first responder families after a line of duty death. While your hosts think this is a no brainer, there are apparently municipalities that do not automatically offer benefits for the surviving families of first responders killed in the line of duty. A quick search revealed a curious case the guys dive into in...

This week the guys welcome back Garrett TeSlaa, host of the Squadroom Podcast to discuss 6 key points to consider when looking to lead in the disciplines. Ask WYE - Issue 54 - Schrodinger's Retirement 20.01.2021

Ever heard of Schrodinger's Cat? We're introducing a concept called Schrodinger's Retirement. To get a better (and brief) understanding of this oft quoted concept, check out the full show notes . Why are we diving so deep into theoretical physics on a first responder podcast? Because one of our hosts is experiencing what the other host refers to as Schrodinger's Retirement. Whe...

Season 3 Premiere! 13.01.2021

In this episode, the guys are back together, in studio, after a 10 day quarantine since Jason left the area to visit family over the holiday. Listener Jeff Sinfield from the great Down Unda' chimes in this week with a question aimed at MC but that HM has some questions about, too. "Can you be sued personally on the job?" It turns out MC and his pals have a built in legal device called Qualified Immunity that HM is curious to learn more about. He asks: Could the removal of Qualified Immunity increase quality of service? Sh...

Ask WYE - Issue 52 - Board Game Mashup 18.11.2020

This week Justin has been thinking about all the board games we play and have around our homes and got the idea in his head to write new rules for Monopoly. And that got him thinking, "If you could mash two games together to make a fun new one? Which would you choose?" Lucky for him, co-host Jason is also a game nerd and so this week's question is all about shaking up family game ni...

Horrible Industry Ideas that Should Never See the Light of Day 11.11.2020

Here at WYE Radio, we fancy ourselves experts in our respective fields. Years of advanced education and training on top of decades of public service, pushing the limits, challenging the status quo and striving to make our professions better than we are. And then comes the Industry. Not the industry like "Oh, cool, electricity and factories" but the companies that prey upon confused (and...

Post Election Mood Cleansing Shenanigans 04.11.2020

In an effort to try to turn a sour election season sweet and a dark week bright, the guys come together to learn about the brilliance, and dim wittedness that is Yahoo Answers as well as trying a few Google auto complete searches about cops and firemen. We hope this episode finds you in the total bliss of a political win and the realization that, even if your old white guy lost and the world is co...

Ask WYE - Issue 51 - How much cross training is too much? 28.10.2020

Listener Phil is back with another good question this week about cross training Police Officers as EMTs. We tackled this topic on our old show and discuss it sometimes but this week we get into the specifics about expectations on scene and how much EMT training is too much. While Police Officers do need tactical intervention training, like bleeding control and CAT use, there isn't much value...

In Memoriam - Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Cortez 21.10.2020

To honor the memory of San Francisco Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Cortez, we've decided to pre-empt our usual show this week and "go dark" in his memory. Jason Cortez was a second-generation firefighter for SFFD that died in the line of duty on October 7th, 2020. The final report is still to be released, what we do know is he was knocked from the third floor of the training tower in...

Ask WYE - Issue 50 - You've Got Homework 07.10.2020

This week's Ask is brief. We're gonna ask you to check out the Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma . Both your hosts have seen it and were deeply intrigued. We thought it would be an interesting experiment to ask you, our faithful listeners, to check it out and then join us this Saturday, October 10th, at the WYE Facebook page (not at all ironically) to have a conversation about the...

CBD - Helpful or harmful? - with Thaddeus Setla of Wicked Root 16.09.2020

As a basic rule, you should always know what you're putting in your body. You want to know that the food and medicine you buy at the store actually contains what it says it does. It's September, do you know where your pants are? For regular listeners, that answer is easy, but for you new people, your hosts also co-founded a charity. As you'll hear in this episode, there's far more to sa...
