We speak with Dr. Anthony Barnhart, Associate Professor of Psychological Science at Carthage College, about the J-Term course he is currently teaching:  "The Cognitive Science of Magic."  Professor Barnhart is an accomplished magician,  and to assist him with this course he has invited an array of his fellow magicians to speak to his class.

From 2017-  Emily St. John Mandel discusses her best-selling book "Station Eleven,"  which has just been adapted into a highly acclaimed ten-part miniseries on HBO Max.  (The first episode debuted in mid-December; the tenth and final episode dropped last Thursday.)  This interview was recorded while "Station Eleven" was the focus of that year's Big Read Project.

For the first monthly visit of 2022 from Gateway Technical College president Bryan Albrecht, we discuss workforce development with Doug Bartz, director of the Kenosha County Job Center, and Beth Norris, operations manager for the Southeast Wisconsin Workforce System.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Michael Cottman talks about his latest book, "Segregated Skies: David Harris's Trailblazing Journey to Rise Above Racial Barriers."  David Harris was the first African-American to become a pilot for a major airline.  

Dr. Jonathan Shailor, Professor of Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, talks about his ongoing and expanding work with inmates at the Racine County Correctional Facility.

We are re-sharing our interview with J.R. Moehringer in which he talks about his memoir titled "The Tender Bar."  The book was recently made into a major motion picture (directed by George Clooney and starring Ben Affleck) .... and the film begins streaming today (January 7th.)

Writer Ravi Shankar (named after but no relation to the musician of the same name) talks about his book "Correctional: a Memoir." In it, he explores the experience of being the son of Indian immigrants, his struggles to sort out his sense of personal identity, and the misdeed that landed him in jail for a time.  (He actually secured tenure while incarcerated.)
