All of us can have a default way of thinking about or relating to the Lord. However, we need to check that from time to time lest we have a deficient understanding of who God is. As a church, we read and affirm our covenant commitments to one another whenever we welcome new people into that relationship of accountability. The nation of Judah was sent into exile to be chastened by the LORD's covenant curses due to their persistent idolatry. And bearing that discipline was what the psalmist laments over in Psalm 102. Pursuing joy is not optional because God's glory is not optional. But with all this talk about joy, what about the biblical call to self-denial?
