We'll explore their struggle and learn some lessons for our own world of ideas! (Revelation 2:12-18) Our message notes can be found here http://www.gatheringcafe.com...

What kind of promises does God have for those afflicted and under pressure from multiple sources? We learn this from some early Christians who know exactly how that felt. (Rev. 2:8-11) Our message notes can be found here http://www.gatheringcafe.com/thewestsidegathering/podcasts/WSGmsg20220227_DaveM.pdf

It's so easy to get tangled into a web of distraction, discouragement, or even a detour. Jesus teaches his earliest followers that restarts or fresh starts are possible when we allow God to prune us and make way for new growth (John 15:1-11). While it’s exciting to create goals at the beginning of the year, what would be different if we allowed God’s kingdom to not only shape our goals but give us a path towards achieving them? God's kingdom - vision for humanity - is righteousness (justice). His purpose is to make the world right and empower people for right living. But you can be crushed under the weight of that vision. We're reminded from this unfortunate conflict in the 1st century Roman Church of how one can become righteous and lives righteously. While the practice of worship is part of what the church does together it was never limited to just that. Our whole life is meant to be an act of worship in response to God’s mercy. We learn how it plays out through work, relationships, money and more. (Romans 12:1-2) Our message notes can be found here http://www.gatheringcafe.com/thewestsidegathering/podcasts/WSGmsg20211114_DaveM.pdf

Why does the church get together weekly? What about all those elements that happen? Did we just make this stuff up? We learn about our worship together through four actions common in most gatherings: sing, speak, serve, sit. Just like stories shape our life, God’s story shapes our worship. Then the content of our worship is filled the whole story of God, so the practice of worship reminds us who narrates the worlds. It’s so easy to look everywhere but up. One key posture of following Jesus is exactly that, looking up - at him - in worship and joyful surrender. We begin a short series on the practice of worship.
