EP.43 - Remember: Faith is the Victory 18.03.2024

In Psalm 44 the psalmist begins with remembrance of all that God has done for the nation. The Psalm quickly turns to feelings of frustration due to a perceived abandonment. Before we point fingers, how many times have we felt this way? We remember stories - and have some ourselves - of how God has worked in the past. We remember fondly the revivals of old.  God, where are you now? Where are you in...

EP.42 - All of my Hope 11.03.2024

In Psalm 42 & 43 the Psalmist seems to have been present with us in 2020 during the COVID outbreak. As we take a little walk down memory lane, we look at and apply this Psalm to that time, and draw lessons form the same. In every moment, our hope can be found in only One - Jehovah.  The One who loves, when we are unlovable, unloving. Who never changes, who is always faithful.  He will be our o...

EP.41 - It's Time to Let Go 26.02.2024

IN Psalm 41 David reminds us of how God is for us when all others seem to be against us. I doing so he shows us the importance of forgiving those who have wronged us. Jesus stated that he had come to give life more abundant. An abundant life is one free of bitterness among many other things. Going into this Psalm I didn't think I struggled with this issue very much. The Holy Spirit showed me other...

EP.40 - Growing a Christian 19.02.2024

In Psalm 40, David provides a simple guide for exponential Christian growth: Patience. More even than patience, we have to learn to lean on Him, to call out to Him. To allow him to work, to recognize and never lose what he has done for us. To see how we need him, how lost we were without him. To daily acknowledge that we have to give him our hearts, but even if our hearts are in the right place......

EP.39 - A Pattern for Repentance 12.02.2024

This week we have a first - 2 Psalms in one episode! Psalm 38 & 39 share a very important instruction amidst David's lament for his failures, for his sins. Our sins rarely happen in an instant, most often, they are the result of many dominoes of sin that compound and grow until they take us captive.  Thankfully, our Father in heaven's love never changes or diminishes. je is always ready with f...

EP.38 - Why you mad, bro? 05.02.2024

In Psalm 37, David challenges us with getting angry with the wicked and maybe even angry at God when we see them just sinning and yet prospering. Why do we suffer and they seem to not? Why do bad things seem to happen to us? Loss, disease, struggles. What is our hope?  Stop. Trust. Delight. There is so much we can do, we can let God do, to get through these feelings - and to get through this seaso...

EP.37 - Finding Abundance in Sacrifice 29.01.2024

David takes us from the wickedness of the wicked to the goodness of God in a single Psalm. One of the most beautiful things we see about God's holiness in this Psalm is how he blesses our sacrifices with and abundance only a God who is above all else and all others can.  When we acknowledge his holiness and sacrifice our own desires - when we sacrifice self because he is holy and deserving of sacr...

EP.36 - The struggle is real - so is God's victory 22.01.2024

Psalm 35 finds David calling on God to fight against his enemies for him. There is a great lesson here in how we can be hesitant at times to ask for the same.  So often we want God to just keep our "enemies" of temptation merely at arms length from us, instead of asking him to vanquish them violently from our lives.  While David speaks of flesh and blood enemies, the truths in this Psalm are appli...

EP.35 - Me Dumb, God good 15.01.2024

This episode is crazy! Well at least it is an account of something crazy. We find ourselves in Psalm 34 and David is praying God as he so loves to do. Ever made a bad decision for a good reason? When the outcome was favorable by God's grace, where did we place the credit? David writes this Psalm on the heels of a bad decision he made for a good reason that he wound up needing deliverance from. His...

EP.34 - Lessons in Joy 08.01.2024

Psalm 33 teaches about God's glory, his awesome power and how our joy can only be full in him. Do we rejoice? Really rejoice? Does it spill out of us like water from an overfilled glass, splashing everything and everyone around us to where they can't help but fell joy as well? Do we paint an attractive picture of the joy we have in Christ to the point that others want to experience it, partake in...

EP.33 - Forgiveness Immediate, Restoration Instant 01.01.2024

Happy New Year! As we welcome 2024, there can't possibly be e better way to start than to be reminded of God's grace and mercy in our lives.  David in Psalm 32 is coming off of a period of egregious sin and trying to hide it, keep it. Only in the acknowledgement of that sin was he able to find relief and joy, leading him to praise the One who forgave him and glorify his name in song. Immediately f...

EP.32 - Christmas Bonus Episode 24.12.2023

Merry Christmas!! As a gift from the podcast team, Tom reads the Christmas Story from Luke 2. We pray you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a special time to remember the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Can we be like the shepherds and proclaim our Savior to the world?

EP.31 - People can disappoint, God is faithful 27.11.2023

Psalm 31 sees David in the midst of betrayal and abandonment by those he had trusted. This causes him to turn to God. How often do we look at the season we are in and feel betrayed? Betrayed by our expectations, betrayed by people we've trusted. Who is our first call? Who do we run to when all others have failed? The truth that echoes this Psalm is that in every season, our God is in control. Beca...

EP.30 – When we look at ME instead of HE 20.11.2023

David comes off the heals of a crushing failure in his life that had drastic consequences in Psalm 30. It is easy sometimes to look at the Lord's blessing as personal accomplishments. God warned Israel against this attitude, and David feels the weight of the reality of what happens when we do just that. When we fail do we turn to God immediately, or do we try to figure it out on our own? If we wer...

EP.29 - When the Thunder Rolls 13.11.2023

David pens a Psalm dedicated to the magnificence of God in a storm he is witness to. How does this translate to praise in our lives? What is the message that God has for us here? More than the storm is the God of the storm that works in it. Do we acknowledge that God is the master of the storm? In this Psalm it is difficult not to praise the same way David did - praising the Lord in the storm as t...

EP.28 - When Silence Speaks 06.11.2023

David goes once again from a low to a high in this week's Psalm as he engages God in prayer.  DO we pray often enough? For the right things? Do we feel God is silent sometimes?  We're not alone. What we can find solace in is that while God may at times seem silent, God is always there. Sometimes his silence is teaching us patience, sometimes his silence is really just a whisper we can' hear becaus...

EP.27 - Surrounded by enemies? Juuussst wait... 30.10.2023

Psalm 27 we meet David in a season where he is on the run from Saul. While he could be complaining and asking God why, we find instead him reaffirming his trust in his Deliverer and he gives us some instruction and insight on what to expect when we follow the One who delights in saving us from every battle.

EP.26 - Examine me, and look what You’ve done 23.10.2023

Psalm 26 may look like David is bragging a little bit, but the only person David is bragging on is God. So much so that he asks God to examine his motivations, purge anything out that shouldn't be there. How often to we stop and look at what He has done in us? To give Him glory for the marvelous work He has wrought in us? When was the last time you asked Him to examine you?  Have you let Him work...

EP.25 - Pray ugly, be Reconciled 16.10.2023

Psalm 25 puts us once again in the company of David, who has lessons to teach about how we should pray. How we are reconciled, how we are restored through the integrity and uprightness of God, whose integrity and uprightness is above reproach. He also admonishes the shame out of our lives and encourages us up to lift up our souls, bare and raw before an almighty God who knows our ugly anyway, and...

EP.24 - His Earth, His Victory 09.10.2023

Here we are in Psalm 24! A Psalm of triumph, awe and praise, we find it becomes easy to give glory to the Father when we look at the world through the lens David provides here.   We see that while the earth is His, he is also the Lord of the battle and the victory is His as well. He is Jehovah, He is LORD above all!

EP.23 - Valley? What Valley? 02.10.2023

Psalm 23 is potentially one of the most well-loved and well-commented on passages in the the Psalms. As we follow the Holy Spirit through the chapter, is there something fresh for us once again? Something we can be renewed by?  God's Word is never without a revitalizing application to our every day life. Join Tom as he discusses joy, the provision of the Shepherd and the way we are cared for so co...

EP.22 - Pray your way to Praise 25.09.2023

Do we ever feel forsaken? Does God ever feel far from you? Do we struggle at times with feeling like God cares? How do we get to a place of praise when we feel this way?  David penned multiple Psalms in which he felt exactly like this. Is it family, finances, health, spirit that has you feeling forsaken? David shares with us his remedy after sharing his struggle. We can find both in Psalm 22.

EP.21 - Answered Prayer and Future Blessing 18.09.2023

David writes a thankful response for the realization of his Psalm for the people to intercede and petition for him in Psalm 21.  Thankfulness, no matter what the answer to our prayers may be can be hard, but in this Psalm we see how we can find joy and thankfulness for the answer of "yes" and the answer of "no". As we look to the future in the second half of the Psalm, we find even more reason to...

EP.20 - Intercession and Encouragement 11.09.2023

Psalm 20 takes us to a nation praying for the prayers and requests of their king to be heard. How often do we intercede on the behalf of our brethren? How often do we think we need to know what to pray for them for? Should we pray for them and that God hear them and help them whether we know the details of their prayers or not? God may provide some answers through his favorite shepherd boy here in...

EP.19 – Undeniable Witness, Firm Truths 04.09.2023

Let's explore Psalm 19 together! Portions of this Psalm are very familiar, but there is something David is pointing out to us that Paul utilizes in the New Testament (which Paul does frequently) that is very important to us. The heavens and nature are an undeniable witness of God's existence. There are firm truths for us if we recognize them and sure blessings to be had in their acknowledgment.
