Walking Alongside: Perspectives
Welcome to Walking Alongside: Perspectives. Take a walk with me as we explore perspectives that I find interesting, moving, ridiculous, hilarious, infuriating, frustrating or down right bizarre! This iteration of the podcast features a combination of short (read 10-15 minutes'ish or less) solo-pods sharing what I have seen, heard, experienced or am navigating and fun and insightful conversations with cool people. Hopefully it will be relatable, possibly humourous, thought provoking or at the very least, entertaining. Looking forward to sharing these perspectives and hope you enjoy.

Airports and Airplanes: The In Between Places 01.07.2025 20:24
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Ahhh the joy of airports...wait...am I being serious. Well, I guess it's a matter of perspective. There are some really obnoxious things about airports, but lately, I've come to terms with them in a completely different way. So here's a look (or a listen - hahaha) to how I have come to view and appreciate airports, airplanes and all that sp...
Rage Lady Rage - Pt 2 15.06.2025 34:23
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! So we made it through to recognizing that both the women and the men had their moment in Barbie - and that's part of the problem. The source of the rage that we are talking about is deeply rooted in how virtually the entirety of society is built and trying to fix it or "take it down" is going to be no easy task. So in Pt 2, Trina and I loo...
Rage Lady Rage - Pt 1 01.06.2025 33:20
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! I don't know about you, but sometimes it seems like there are just a million things to be angry about. Some of it is justified, but some of it is also just this bizarre slippery slope of things that feel a lot like that guy who just keeps pushing the rock up the mountain only to have it roll down the other side. So what if we took a different approa...
Garbage - Not the Band 15.05.2025 15:53
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Not what you might normally think would make for fascinating discussion, although there are people who actually study garbage...but this is not an archeological jaunt through the refuse of centuries or even millenia past - no - it's a look at the times we are in. Times that are rife with examples of all the myriad types of garbage that we contend wit...
The Second Coming 29.04.2025 40:00
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! This is a first - the only real indication of what we were going to talk about was the fact that friend and returning guest, Jeremy Peressini, said that we needed to use the Yeats poem, the Second Coming as the jumping off point. So that's what we did and the rest, as they say, just came out of that. It's all over the map - the geopolitical map...
It's Up to Us to Change The World 13.04.2025 15:10
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! I was going to use all kinds of cool and heroic music for this...but somehow I got lost in the message and David and Tina's songs completely escaped the sieve that is my mind these days. But it's okay. I also almost talked myself out of this episode because I thought maybe it's too controversial, too political. But if not now then when? Now...
Two People Walk Into a Guitar Store... 01.04.2025 1:02:21
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Okay - so heads up folks, this is a long one. Feel free to skip to 1:26:567 if you want to get into the heart of this absolutely delightful romp all over the map with my guest Calvin Simonson, guitar hero/sound "engineer"/music aficionado and all around great guy. While knowing one another for all of 5 minutes prior to this show, we manage to hi...
What Are You Looking Forward To? 15.03.2025 19:27
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! The actual title of this was going to be, "The Fun and Folly of Having Something to Look Forward To" but that seemed too long. Which is not surprising considering I often use a million words when 12 will do...but the point of this episode is to look at what it is that we are or can look forward to in "these times" *cue ominous music he...
Joy and Movement - Let's Get Physical 01.03.2025 16:48
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! So from Prince to Olivia Newton-John's iconic song, which only upon listening to it in preparation for this episode did the double entendre (which is not at all subtle) hit me smack in the face. But it's a suitable anthem for a look once again at joy this time in the context of movement, in the variety of ways that can be defined. It looks at &q...
Prince Was Right All Along! 16.02.2025 18:32
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! It took some doing to come up with a follow-up topic to my conversation with my pen pal, but then it struck me as there were all these signs pointing me in a particular direction. What do we control - or perhaps more importantly and significantly, what do we think we can control? Where in our lives can we affect change that will improve how we feel, inter...
Joy and Podcasting and Other Stuff - with my Pen Pal 01.02.2025 47:42
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! So this somehow ended up becoming a bit of a follow-up episode to my last conversation (with myself) only this time, I get to talk about stuff with my Pen Pal, Todd, who joins me from Portland. We talk joy, podcasts (making and listening and stats and such) and how important it is to make life decisions based on your path, not someone else's, and how...
What I Do and Do Not Know (For Sure) or Otherwise 19.01.2025 18:09
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! I did an episode a while ago on things I don't understand, and this is kind of a continuation on that, with an emphasis on learning and growing and being opening to change and all the things that I think make us better people. I'm not talking about just deep and meaningful things, thought some certainly are more important to me than others, and...
The Name Game -or- What's In A Name? 04.01.2025 27:56
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Happy New Year!!! How is it already 2025? Hope it's going well so far, and here's a question for you...Have you ever thought about your name? Or pondered why movie star's names are what they are? Well, so have we! Daphne and I discourse on the sometimes thorny topic of names and why it matters, especially these days as people express themse...
Polyvagal What Now? How to Regulate Ourselves in a Dysregulated World 18.12.2024 47:41
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Don't let the title scare you! If you have ever wondered why you are behaving the way you are, or why you just can't seem to make yourself do...well...anything, it might be because your body is trying to tell you something. Have you been dealing with a lot for seemingly ever? That's a clue. Did you recently get in a car crash or fall and hi...
The ARTS: Should NOT be Optional 18.11.2024 34:41
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! When you think about the arts, it's likely that your thoughts go to museums - the Louvre (of course) or our own AGA or maybe things like the symphony or possibly and hopefully local theatre like the Citadel or even Broadway. But do you think about who the people are who make the art or the music or write or act in the plays? Why not? Is it because it...
The Benefits of Stress Leave and the Barriers to Getting There 02.11.2024 20:51
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! When you think about your mental health (and I hope you do) do you consider that most of the time we might actually be taking it for granted? That we assume we're going to wake up every morning and be okay or fine or good to go, or whatever phrase pops automatically out of our mouths. But what happens when slowly, insidiously there is a gradual shift...
How Dumpster Fires Build Resilience 19.10.2024 47:45
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy (well, maybe my WORST enemy) what my friend Jeremy has had to endure, deal with and overcome over the last almost 2 years. In this episode we talk about what happens when life takes a dramatic and unexpected left turn, what a person can do to prepare themselves for the those improbable situations and what the lessons...
Who Doesn't Like Music? 03.10.2024 37:40
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! This is the third and final installment of our series on all things music and we cover so many things. Lyrics, musicality, motifs, feelings and life experiences and all the things that music is and influences. We talk about a wide range of artists and what they mean to us or how they have affected us, and as usual there are some interesting takes. Whether...
The Beatles 15.09.2024 44:27
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Well - here we are with our second installment of our series on music, and this time we are going head to head discussing the Beatles. It is in my opinion, one of the most polarizing bands, for reasons we will get into in this episode. There are some more clips from songs you will likely know well, at least recognize, and if you're like most people e...
David Bowie - The Man, the Music, the Movies 31.08.2024 24:24
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! In this episode - I have a special guest/cohost! None other than my kiddo Daphne. Audiophile in the making, they are joining me in a three part series where we look at music and what it means to us, what we think about it, and what we actually like about it. In this first installment, we talk all things David Bowie - well maybe not ALL things. But we do c...
Out of the Ashes - Creativity and Inspiration 27.08.2024 9:45
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Sometimes things happen that seem on the surface to be tragic or difficult or challenging and sometimes they are some or all of those things. As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. But so to is creativity and inspiration sometimes either the result of those hard times. This is a short, fast and furious look at some recent events that ha...
The Perspective Changing Power of Travel 05.08.2024 17:43
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! When you travel - there are so many things that could happen. Being on a cruise ship, which is really more like being on location than truly travelling, or going to a resort, which while ticking the boxes of "getting away from it, having some downtime and relaxing" doesn't really allow for a true experience of wherever you are. Truly travel...
Friendship 25.06.2024 15:15
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Friends - we hopefully all have 'em. We need to have those people in our lives that keep us grounded, call us out on our BS and are there when things hit the fan. Whether near or far, old or new, casual or close, friends are the glue that keep our humanity together. In this episode I consider the types of friends we have, how we can make them and how...
Customer Service - The Spoonful of Sugar 07.06.2024 18:15
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! If you think that you customer service is a thing of the past, then I would challenge you to pay more attention to not only what you bring to the interaction, but what the people that you are interacting with are dealing with and how if you look a little deeper, there are probably lots of examples of people doing a great job, in potentially the weirdest o...
A Moral Obligation 17.05.2024 12:11
Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! It's not about religion - so don't be put off by the title. I gave up church during the pandemic...long story. But I still believe that there is an inherent responsibility that all people have regardless of any spiritual affiliation or lack thereof. So when people who by virtue of a position they find themselves in, don't abide by the idea...
