Up until this point in Exodus, Pharaoh's magicians have kept pace with the signs and wonders of God. But no more. From Exodus 8 on, God separates and distinguishes himself from the powers of the world. It's incredible how many connections there are between Jesus fulfilling the Passover in Mark 14 and the first Passover in Exodus 12.
