The Christian faith is not simply what Jesus Christ has done or what we do... but WHO Jesus Christ is. 1 Samuel 15 makes us consider the failure of Israel's first king, we leave not lamenting in Saul but rejoicing in Jesus Christ. Because as Saul's kingdom ends we are reminded that God's kingdom endures.

We see how Saul is essentially a functional atheist - though he believes in God, he lives and makes decisions like he doesn’t exist. It’s something that we’re all too liable to do, too.

Our God is graciously sovereign over both the minute and mundane parts of life, as he is sovereign over the weighty and eternal realities of life. What an encouragement to know that he is still on his throne and we can trust him with yesterday, today and tomorrow!

The folly of humanity is to believe that we are self made women and men, and then to worship our ‘creator’. Wisdom is learning that we are creatures fearfully and wonderfully made by our God, and worshipping him as our King. This wisdom comes from God alone, as he speaks his word to us.
