It’s been 100 years since Virginia lawmakers created the Virginia State Board of Censors. The all-white board required edits to over 2,000 movies from the 1920s through ‘60s, and were especially concerned about depictions of race. Melissa Ooten with the University of Richmond wrote a book about the board.
