The show, which aired from the early 1940s to the early 1950s, was conceived as a recruiting vehicle for the United States Army and Army Air Corps (which became the United States Air Force in 1947). The evolution of the show is interesting. During WWII, the stories focused significantly on the heroism of the Army nurses to encourage women to volunteer for that assignment.
