presence? What does it mean for an individual Christian to 'practice the presence of God'? How can practices of contemplative prayer help us orient ourselves to the presence of God in the midst of our every-day lives?

How does the gift of faith operate in prayer? (side application: authority)

Jesus heals people who seem like they are underserving and outside of God's Kingdom. We categorize people as "inside" and "outside" God's Kingdom, but the gospel is good news for "outsiders." Jesus changes our categories and identifies people coming towards him in all sorts of places.

We'll talk about deliverance and how Jesus sets us free from oppression. We'll go back to Luke 4, he is here to set the prisoners free from the powers. We'll talk about spiritual warfare and deliverance. We are in a battle, but we are on the winning team and we can pray for God's Kingdom to come.

In order to understand how the Holy Spirit moves, we need to first understand the big picture of God's kingdom. Jesus wasn't a sort of magician who did amazing things to awe people. He came to fulfill all of the Kingdom expectation, which is summarized in the passage from Isaiah 61 and which Jesus says he came to fulfill here in Luke. What we're going to see is that Jesus relied on the Holy Spirit...

Our hearts need to be prepared for a move of God and the work of the Spirit in our lives. John the Baptist showed up to prepare people for a new movement, one that was marked by miracles, signs and wonders, and healing power. They begun by entering into a season of repentance and out of that they saw God move.

To open the series, we will show part of John Wimber's testimony, "I'm a Fool for Christ." (54:16-1:22:50) This is our founding story (Luke). God is still moving and healing and setting people free and we can partner with God in this work. We want people to understand what it is to be desperate for God and out of that place - ask God to move.

Everyone has a need for a guide in life to help us through the unknowns. That guide is Jesus. We get guidance from him through the Spirit and the Scriptures, but we hear God's voice and understand the scriptures best in the community. We all need guidance as we walk through life and that begins with community.

This message will teach people the practices of meditation & prayer as ways to recover rest and life. Prayer is more than making a list of needs, it is also deep listening and making space to declutter our hearts and minds and make space for God. Everyone has a deep longing to find rest. We all search for places where we can finally be at peace and be free to be ourselves. God has designed us to find true rest only in himself, and we will be restless until we find ourselves in him. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that discipline is something that is essential to growth. God shows us that the context of discipline is the loving relationship between a parent and a child.

Jesus brought children into the center of his ministry and made it clear that they are at the center of the kingdom. He welcomed those younger than him, included them, and blessed them.... even when those around him were pushing children into the margins.
