Every year, one of our favorite Sundays is when we invite five fresh communicators to preach for five minutes. This year, we had our friends Faith, Shadei, Alex, Pastor Stephanie, and Jon.

We had some fun this Sunday with our friend Adam Bush Comedy. We laughed a lot as he shared some hilarious and moving stories and plenty of jokes. We learned to not believe what others have said about us but what God is saying.

Worship is more than the songs we sing but not less than. Pastor Jon taught on the reason we worship and what it sounds like and looks like.

This weekend was student takeover and our very own Mr. Tre spoke a powerful message on finding our identity in Christ through the story of Gideon.

There are so many things in the summer that we fear missing out on; vacations, road trips, concerts, pool days, lake days, beach days, grilling out and more. So much stuff to be envious of that robs us of our joy.  But there is a good kind of FOMO - a kind that drives us into our purpose and calling. At Vima, we believe there are four steps to walking in a resurrected life. It's our mission to help you KNOW God, GROW in freedom, DISCOVER your purpose, and GO make a difference. In this very practical message, Pastor Jon gave us some incredible insights on how to walk in resurrection power.

For something to be resurrected something has to die. In this case, our sin must be put to death, our former self, our old ways - so that we can walk in new life. This is the promise we have in Christ. We do not have to be the same, we do not have to continue to struggle, we can have freedom!

As Jesus approaches Jerusalem in royal fashion we see two contrasting themes, a celebration of triumph and tears of brokenness. On this day Jesus instigated the cross by welcoming the praise of a king, by receiving the worship from the people, and not denying His place as the Son of God. 

The most taught topic by Jesus in the Gospels is the kingdom of God. It's unlike any kingdom man has ever known. Worldly kings take from their people to build their kingdom, our King (Jesus Christ) gives of Himself to build His people.

The lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son all have a common thread that often goes unnoticed. It's not just that the lost are found, and that's good news! It's also a parable on how we are to respond to the lost being found. Do you find joy when others find Jesus?

We took a slight detour on our journey to Easter through the Gospel of Luke and heard from our friend Pastor Joel Cauley of Relevant Church in Kentucky.  In 2 Corinthians 4, the apostle Paul speaks of the weight we carry in this world, the heaviness, but also how Jesus lifts that off of us. In Luke 13, Jesus is asked a perplexing questions that leads to a powerful and clear sermon. "Will the saved be few?" His response; “Strive to enter through the narrow door." If salvation is a free gift, why would Jesus tell us to "strive"? Pastor Jon unpacks this and a few other things Jesus said about this door in this weeks message.

In Luke 11, Jesus speaks about a lamp to the eye of our soul. He speaks about those who have received the light and those who have not. Once we truly experience the real Jesus, it doesn't just affect our morality and external responses but there is an internal transformation.

In Luke 10, Jesus sends out a group of 72 to go before him and preach the Gospel, heal, and prepare the way for His arrival. As He is sending them He makes a powerful statement, “the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.” We found three truths in this story: 1. Jesus is the Lord of the harvest 2. He is looking for laborers for His harvest 3. The harvest is souls.

Jehovah Jirah - the Lord will provide In Luke 9, Jesus miraculously feeds thousands of people from just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. The story is revealing to the character of Jesus and His provision for all of our needs. Jesus loves, heals, teaches, and feeds - He is our provider.

Pastor Chad Overton brought an incredible word on the freedom we find only in Christ. In Luke 8, we see a story of powerful interaction Jesus had with a man who was demon possessed. This man lived in the tombs, isolation, and bound by sin but one encounter with Jesus brought him freedom from isolation, shame, and strongholds. Jesus isn't afraid of darkness and death because He came on mission...

In Luke 7:36-50, we get one of the most beautiful pictures of humility in the Bible. As a women who is known by her sin finds herself broken at the feet of Jesus; washing, kissing, and anointing Him. Her understanding of the magnitude of His forgiveness brought a humbling response. Yet there is another in the room who just sat, watched, and judged - not considering his own sin.  This brought us to...

As Jesus was preaching all around Galilee the crowd grew large. He asked a few fishermen to push out to the sea in their boat and to preach from there. Fighting the temptations in our lives can feel like a lost cause. We do better for a season and then slip back into those patterns of sin.
