We started the "No Coast Summer" off strong with three fresh communicators from our church. Jay and Faith just graduated from Vima Leadership Academy's first class and Joey just returned from our first international missions trip. Each person shared on the Hope of Jesus in different realities: our church, our community and our world.

We are all on a pilgrimage to somewhere, trying to achieve and arrive at our preferred destinations. Along each of our paths there are perils, adversity, and pain. Where we look for our help and hope matters. The psalmists in Psalm 121 paints a beautiful picture of this journey and asks the important question, "Where does our help come from?"

We can see that Jesus participated in authentic, life-giving community. We are called to model the same relationships that Jesus had in his ministry!

As Jesus is nearing the cross, He tucks away to the secret place to pray. This was a special place, a garden of olive trees. To achieve the finest olive oil there is a process of three pressings. Jesus went to prayer three times seeking the Father's will before He took on the sins of the world, He experienced three pressings. Where you go when you are pressed? Do you start with prayer?

In John 13, we get one of the most humbling and intimate stories between Christ and His disciples. Jesus leads them by serving in the washing of their feet and they share in holy communion together. Biblical community is not important, it is critical to our spiritual growth. Our created divine nature is that of relational beings. Paul gives us a beautiful picture in Ephesians 4 of how when we are each connected to the body, in community and gifting, it has growth benefits to us and others. You need Biblical community and the community needs you!

Reading the Bible is such an important part of our faith. There is a discipline, a practice that leads to deeper intimacy with Christ when it comes to God's Word - called meditation.
