It’s been said the longest distance in the world is between our head and our heart. When it comes to living out who we really are, how do we close the gap between what we know to be true and what we feel is real?

Labels are a normal part of life. Whether it’s ingredient lists or book titles, clothing tags or mailing addresses, labels help us identify things. But when we label people, the result is reducing who they really are down to one word. In the end, labels just aren’t enough. So then how should we define who we are? Join Alex for answers as we continue in our series: Identity Crisis.

Christina, Alex, Davis, and Cole talk about finding our identity in our relationship status. They help us think through and answer the questions: Why is it so easy to find our identity in the fact that were’s single? Why is it easy to become co-dependent on our significant other? Why is Jesus actually the better answer and who we should actually seek to find our identity?

We all want to fit in and social media has given us the ability to craft our image until people accept us. And yet, we’re lonelier than ever. Why? Jesus tells us we weren’t made to just fit in, we were made to belong.

Three-fourths of Gen Z feels “inadequate” or “not enough.” What do we do with that? Just try harder? That only sends us into an endless cycle of comparison and discontentment. God offers a better way - a path to an identity we were made for.

Most, if not all of us, find our identity (at least in part) in what others want, expect, or need us to be. But constantly trying to live up to the expectations of other people is a miserable way to live. Jesus offers something better - an identity base not on what we do for others, but what he’s done for us.

If someone asked you, “Who are you?”, what would you say? What or who defines your identity? Do you feel like you know the real you, or just versions of yourself?
