Are you confident? Everyone has had something not go according to plan in life and every time it happens, our confidence level shifts. With every unexpected turn of events, it’s easy to develop a level of uncertainty that overshadows what we’re meant to be sure of. None of us can predict the future, but God has assured us what the ultimate outcomes will be. Because of this we can Be Confident.

The Kingdom of God is an ongoing theme of the Gospels — the four biographies of Jesus’ life. Jesus taught about it regularly. And while some mistake it as just a reference to a future reality, still others miss its present purpose. Those familiar words — Your kingdom come — came through Jesus as he taught His apostles what we today call the Lord’s Prayer. And the stories of Jesus’ life preserved f...

Imagine that you’re minding your own business one day, and Jesus drops by to tell you that He’s coming over to your house. The Gospels tell us that this actually happened to quite a few people in New Testament times. We read that throughout His ministry, Jesus was often found in someone’s home eating, teaching — or just hanging out. And the early church continued this practice each week by encount...

Our normal pace of life these days is unsustainable. In fact, we can stay so busy doing so many activities that we risk missing out on life. It’s a reminder why God instituted a day of rest for His people. And when we take time out to simply be, it isn’t just counter cultural. Instead, it gives us space to experience Him in a life-giving way. If you’re tired of being busy all the time without much...

The Old Testament's final 12 books contain the writings of prophets of Israel — men whom God set aside as messengers to that nation. They’re often called the Minor Prophets. But the “minor” isn’t a slight against the content's importance. Instead, it’s simply a reference to size. These powerful books convey pivotal messages about God’s justice, righteousness, compassion, and love for His people. A...

Writer Tom Wolfe coined the term Me Generation back in the 1970s. It was his commentary on the narcissism of the times, when the concepts of self-fulfillment and self-realization replaced social responsibility and the common good. Today — 50 years later — we still live in a culture dominated by me. But maybe that’s not surprising. It’s only natural to think of ourselves as individuals and navigate...

This is a special time to gather and reflect on the light and joy brought by Jesus’ first coming -- and the expectant hope we share at His coming again.

Christmas brings out the classics: music, traditions, decorations … and movies. And they in turn bring out the themes of life during the holidays, whether they’re idyllic, fantastical, or the reason for the season. This Advent we’ll look at the Hope, Peace, and Joy we receive through the gift of Jesus’ First Coming (and His Second!) — all through the lens of the Christmas classics How the Grinch S...
