Police in Johannesburg were on high alert last night in various hotspots around the city as revellers were out and about celebrating the New Year. Every new year's eve places like Hilbrow and Berea become hotspots for disorderly behaviour while several townships are hotbeds for the abuse and misuse of fireworks.
