What are the biblical sacraments? What is their purpose? What do they do? How does God use them? How should we understand them? Where are the answers to these questions taught in Scripture? In this message, we look at the biblical sacraments of Passover, the Lord’s Supper, Circumcision and Baptism in their historical context with an eye to answering these important questions.

In this message we look at Jesus’ response to the charge of Sabbath breaking. In doing this we get some of the ground rules behind Christian ethics. How can the Old Testaments priests work harder on the Sabbath and not be found guilty of breaking it? How can a person be circumcised on the Sabbath and be guiltless of breaking it? 2020 has been a challenging year. And as it has closed it has left many anxious, scared, and uncertain. In this message, Pastor Rick leads us in how to address this fear. In the last message, from Isaiah 24, we looked at what this world is coming to--sure judgment. In this message we look at the wonderful salvation the Lord has brought in Christ Jesus--a salvation that calls for a new song.

In this passage, Jesus responds to the two charges laid against Him: 1) Sabbath breaking 2) blasphemy--making Himself equal with the Father. In this message we look at His great rebuttal and glean from the ways Jesus is equal with the Father.

As Jesus continues His earthly ministry things begin to heat up. His opponents see Jesus’ acts of mercy conducted on the Sabbath as Sabbath breaking and His calling God His Father as blasphemy. In verses 19 and following, Jesus responds to these charges and in doing so He gives us some of the most remarkable passages in the New Testament concerning His divine nature and acts.

This morning we come to a well known story of Jesus healing a man who had been invalid for 38 years. But as we will see, this miraculous healing is not the main focus of the narrative. Because Jesus healed this man on a Sabbath, the Jews accused Jesus of committing the crime of Sabbath breaking but in actuality, Jesus was healing the man on the Sabbath to reveal their crime of heartless religion....
