I sit down with my college friend Zach and work through James KA Smith's "How To (Not) Be Secular." It's a fantastic read and it has caused me to wrestle with a few concepts as I attempt to pastor a church that is more influenced by secularism than we even realize.

Our quick response is to fight or flight. But what if there was another option? In this message, we look at the core issue of our desire for revenge and retaliation: dehumanization. Praise God that the cross paves the way for us. Matthew 5:38-42

When we read Matthew 5:33-37, we can get lost in a cultural disconnect. We don't use oaths the same way they were used in the time of Jesus. When we learn the motivation behind taking oaths, we get to the heart of the issue. Are you a master of manipulation? It points to an issue that only a regenerated heart in Jesus can solve. #JesusIsBetter

This has plagued so many people and I think a lot of us have grown hopeless in the battle against lust. It's important for us to recognize that this isn't a battle against desire... but a disordered desire. We believe Jesus gives us the blueprint to truly find liberation from the destruction of lust. Matthew 5:27-30

The focus on the 21 Day Practice starts around 24:00. However, this whole episode was fun and encouraging. We talk about how to make conversations and bring people into the fold. I know you'll love it.

I hope this podcast encourages you and maybe makes you feel a little more at ease. Sharing the gospel is not just for the crazy extroverts that aren't terrified of a crowd. I believe this trying vs training mentality will release a lot of anxiety and give you the courage to take at least one step forward.

We desperately need this message in today's society. Contempt is killing us and the gospel of Jesus enables us to be free from it. Matthew 5:21-26 Also excuse the poor audio at the end.
