TRASHFUTURE

Elon Musk is (maybe?) buying Twitter again, but more importantly, the conversations between him and a number of his doofus friends and associates have been disclosed. We look into the Mind of Musk, and speculate about his grand plans for the future of humanity via posting. We end on a charming article about McKinsey and the tobacco industry. If you want access to our Patreon bonus episodes, early...

Gary from Gary's Economics joins the gang to take a deep dive on the politics and economics of the budgetary disaster. Do you wonder about the mechanism by which these insane decisions make their way through to mortgages, pensions, and rents? Do you want to understand the core of Labour's weak response? Then look no further! You can listen to the full episode on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.c...

Cory Doctorow and Rebecca Giblin come on to discuss their new book “Chokepoint Capitalism,” which details how large companies have identified critical bottlenecks in the creative Labour process to suck the value and life out of them like vampires, and what can and has been done about it. Also, a startup! U.K. economic implosion to be discussed in this week’s bonus. Buy Rebecca and Cory’s book here...

For this month's second Britainology, Milo forces Nate (currently in Indiana taking care of his family, free from the United Kingdom for a brief moment) to VPN in and watch the first episode of the new Channel 4 reality TV show 'Make Me Prime Minister,' in which a brilliantly selected curation of idiots fight for the approval of noted war criminal Alistair Campbell and high-profile political Islam...

This is perhaps something of a combination of Britainology and a regular TF episode in which we've brought on Matt Edwards, Milo's (much) older brother, who worked as a foreign exchange trader in London brokerages in the 1990s. We learn about the geezer-rific work environment of a bunch of guys yelling into a phone about numbers, some of the antics they got up to, what's changed since, and--perhap...

On this week's bonus episode of TF, Riley is joined by Milo, Hussein, and Nate, all of whom are captive in the United Kingdom at the moment as a nation fully crashes its car into a wall. We also discuss large corporations having NFT characters on their board as 'chief metaverse officer.' Tech companies were ahead of the curve when it comes to setting money on fire. Patrick Wyman joins the gang to discuss social collapse and legitimacy throughout history, as we try to apply some of the lessons to certain societies that have been thrown into chaos recently. Not naming names, but let's say United K. Or no, that's too specific - how about U. Kingdom. This week, Riley and Alice are joined by Cas Piancey of the Crypto Critics Corner podcast to discuss Tether, stablecoins, and the enormous scam quotient of the crypto sector. It's okay to be pessimists about it! Your eyes aren't lying to you! This week, Riley, Milo, and Alice speak with FT reporter and author Dan McCrum ( @FD ) about his forthcoming book 'Money Men: A Hot Startup, a Billion Dollar Fraud, a Fight for the Truth.' It is of course about Wirecard, and it's got some amazing details that we simply lose our minds about as Dan recounts them. Hope you enjoy! Buy Dan's book here ! If you’re looking for a UK strike fund to donate...

Call it an act of reportage. Call it 'we simply couldn't refuse the opportunity.' We went down to the queue for Queen Elizabeth II's lying in state and interviewed people. We also recorded our observations. It was... an experience. This week, Riley, Milo, Hussein, and Alice join special guest and friend of the show Jathan Sadowski ( @jathansadowski ) of the This Machine Kills podcast ( @machinekillspod ) to discuss microfinance. Despite the Nobel Prizes involved, it turns out it’s just app-connected loan sharking in many ways. We also discuss a mental health app that provides crowdsourced therapy. Is it licensed? Hey, that’s...

This week, Riley, Milo, Hussein, and Alice join special guest Shanti Singh for her second-ever appearance on TF, to discuss recent recall campaigns and dark money activism funded through San Francisco's intensely authoritarian libertarian VC guys. However, before we can talk about that, we have to talk about a startup that wants to build sea pods, presumably so that you can pay rent to a sealord....

Riley, Hussein, and Alice ring in the reboot of the Carolingian Era in true TF style. In a preview of August's second Britainology episode, we speak with Aberdeen-based musician Elijah Fynmore about the moments in UK life when you're allowed to--or expected to--break into song. What is the deal with Sweet Caroline? What is the deal with Irish folk ballads about utterly obliterating British Army Land Rovers? All this and more, in this episode. Did you know that the City of London, the small mini-enclave that dates back to Roman times, is a separate state entity that predates the United Kingdom by hundreds of years? And that its special status makes it basically immune to disclosure rules and financial oversight? Well, sort of. Riley steps in to explain The Land of the Weird Bollards and much more. We offer one Britainology a month in ad...

Okay, okay, maybe you've heard the term 'posh' or 'posho' when referring to fancy British people. You're aware that this country has a reputation for its class system. But what does it actually mean? To answer this question, we brought in TF founding cohost and knower of fancy tendencies Charlie Palmer to discuss. It's all here: getting ripped at 11 am on Dubonnet, wearing a straw hat every day at...

We bring on journalist Ian MacDougall to discuss the libertarian intentional-community of Prospera, a failing city-state in the Bay Islands of Honduras, where Thiel- and Andreessen-funded weirdos have tried to create a land where anyone can open a business with any law, from any jurisdiction, anywhere, adjudicated by some guys in Arizona. We’re not making this up. Read Ian’s article here! https://...

Here is this week's slightly delayed bonus--it's a recording of our live show at Edinburgh Fringe recorded at TheSpace @45 late in the evening on August 26, 2022. We discuss a wearable tech for the mind and an insane Wattpad-style fanfic about Princess Diana published in... the Telegraph? Hope you enjoy! It's the alternate chaos configuration of Hussein, Nate, and Alice discussing the UK's current drought, its privatised water infrastructure, the fact that no new capacity has been added since 1989... except for a special boy's special project in Beckton. We also read an article that claims blockchain can solve the world's water issues. We will always suffer for content. Get the whole episode on Pa...
