Jesus is now in Jerusalem and His interactions with those who oppose Him are ramping up! In this chapter Jesus has conversations with the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the Scribes - all of which are trying to trap him.

Chapter 11 marks a significant event for Jesus as He walks into Jerusalem - the home of the Pharisees. They have been following Him around, trying to trap Him and discredit Him, now He is at their front door.

The transfiguration, the casting out of a demon that the Apostles couldn't handle, Jesus predicting His death and resurrection and so much more!

It continues to be astonishing how compassionate Jesus is in the midst of crowds and multitudes demanding His time and attention. Chapter 8 not only includes more miracles but also includes very profound teaching about the dangers of influential people and Jesus' upcoming rejection and death.

This chapter begins with an interaction between Jesus and some Pharisees that take issue with the lack of attention being shown by the disciples to the traditional/ceremonial washing of hands that is done by the Jews prior to eating. This opens the door for some teaching on what truly makes one clean or unclean...and, spoiler alert, it's not what goes in, it's what comes out!

So much happens in Mark 6! It's difficult to wrap our minds around all that is recorded for us...better yet try to discuss it all in 20 minutes! But one thing that keeps coming to the surface is the compassion that Jesus has for people; even putting them above His own needs.

We continue our study through Mark this week with a chapter that tells the stories of Jesus casting out demons and raising a young girl from the dead. Both remarkable in their own right and both demonstrating Jesus' great power of both the physical and the spiritual realms.

Mark doesn't include as many parables as some other gospel writers do but chapter 4 is a grouping of those parables that provide us with some important teaching. The words of God are powerful and they can produce almost unthinkable greatness when falling on hearts that are searching!

Chapter 3 picks up right where chapter 2 left off...with conflict centering on the Sabbath. But Mark also continues to provide us with vivid language describing the masses of people that surrounded Jesus almost at every turn. But through it all, Jesus stays true to his purpose.
