After Lazarus’ resurrection, the Sanhedrin plots to kill Jesus. Caiaphas, the high priest, utters a prophecy: Jesus will die for the nation. John adds in his commentary that Jesus died not for the nation only but to gather for himself a people from every nation. | John 11:45-57

Jesus arrives at Lazarus’ funeral and is deeply moved and greatly troubled to the point of weeping. But even in the emotional complexity of the moment, Jesus displays his divinity by raising his friend back to life.

Lazarus is sick and his sisters send word to Jesus to help. Jesus loved Lazarus and Mary and Martha, so naturally Jesus waited to go see them. This morning we find out why he did that and that Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
