Friends of the Rosary, In the Old Testament, the Jewish people were asking, "Why has the Lord permitted us to be defeated?" In the New Testament, in yesterday's reading (Mark 1:40-45), the leper asked himself the same question. But he recognized the authority of the Lord when he begged: “If you wish, you can make me clean." Moved with pity, Jesus said to him, “I do will it. Be m...

Friends of the Rosary, Saints are like anyone else, despite how we consider them as spiritual heroes preserved from our day-to-day activities. They struggled with the same things we do, and loved the same things we do. They are not simply models to be admired. There are saints in ordinary life, in art and poetry, in motherhood, psychology, and even politics. There is a huge diversity. Each one uni...

Friends of the Rosary, In today's reading (Mark 1:29-39), we see how people from Galilee brought to Jesus those who were ill or possessed by demons. His physical healing points to his spiritual healing. The Scripture says, "He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him." During His public ministry, Christ the Lor...

Friends of the Rosary, In today’s reading from the Gospel (Mark 1:21-28), we see the people of Capernaum in the synagogue astonished at Jesus' teaching, "for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes," Mark the Evangelist is telling us. They asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." Their amazement...

We saw this fulfillment yesterday at the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, a Theophany event in which God appeared in three persons, showing the Trinitar...

Friends of the Rosary, Like St. John the Baptist said, in today’s reading (John 3-22:30), “He must increase; I must decrease.” At that time, John prepared the way of the Lord, presenting himself as a forerunner of the Messiah. He was summing up the longing of the Israelites when, upon Jesus' coming to be baptized, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” Behold the one who has come to be sacrificed, b...

And though the second coming and the establishment of God’s kingdom haven’t taken place yet, the old world is broken and compromised. Its destruction is now just a matter of time. The arrival of a new state of affai...
