Tier Two Talk: The Australian Championship

After a week off, we have a lot to cover. Sydney United 58 have won their 8th Waratah Cup. The Australia Cup Round of 32 draw has been announced. We also do our monthly Australian Championship round-up from the other 8 NPL grounds, and there's much more!

South Melbourne wins the big show over Preston in dramatic and acrobatic fashion. Plus, Avondale and Marconi both drop points and surrender their top spots in the league for a week, and there's much more to dive into!

In an extra episode, South Melbourne's Captain Marco Jankovic joins us to discuss everything related to the upcoming Big Show versus Preston Lions, the prospect of playing in the Australian Championship, South's form throughout the season, and their Australia Cup run that has seen them through to the Round of 32.

In our 20th episode of Tier Two Talk, we have a massive show with the Big Show part 2 between South Melbourne and Preston Lions, set to light up the NPL Victoria once again. The Socceroos are going to the World Cup in 2026 after their win over Saudi Arabia, and the Waratahs Cup reaches the semi-final stage with the first piece of silverware up for grabs in NSW!

Avondale climb back to the top of the NPL Victoria after a 5-star performance at home. We also have another Australian Championship showdown between 2 sides who need a win to kickstart their second half of the season.

A massive episode as we do our midseason review of all 8 teams and grade them based on their performances so far. The Original Melbourne Derby set off more fireworks, and the Macedonian Derby this weekend looks to do the same this weekend. And the final preliminary rounds of the Australia Cup take place, with teams securing their spots on the national stage.

South Melbourne is in serious trouble, and their fate could be sealed over two big match weeks! Plus, our Australian Championship foundation teams hope to start submitting their spots in the top 6 with the second half of the season promising to deliver a lot of drama and entertainment.

We have our first player interview on the podcast with Apia Leichahrts Number 7, Jack Stewart, joining the episode to talk about his form, Apia's upcoming fixtures and the Australian Championship. Marconi's undefeated start to the season ends at 13 games, and it was a bad weekend for all 3 Victorian Clubs.

South Melbourne has a familiar face returning to Lakeside in hopes of lifting the club's spirits ahead of October. Plus, more cupsets and Championship showdowns continue to entertain fans weekly!!

With only the NPL NSW in action over the Easter long weekend, 4 out of the 5 Australian Championship clubs picked up 3 points to keep the NPL NSW league table very tight. The Derby D'Italia is restored for 2025 with both clubs in a great run of form, and Sydney Olympic begin to push their way into the top 6 and set their sights on the top 2 with their unbeaten run in April!!

Things go from bad to worse for South Melbourne, who are now managerless after parting ways with Esteban Quintas after 8 games without a win. Marconi continued their unbeaten run and finally ascended to the top of the table after winning against NWS Spirit. Round 4 of the Australia Cup continues as Round 5 fixtures begin to be announced!

Sydney United 58 pick up another huge win in their step towards regaining form against fellow Australian Championship side Apia. Marconi go equal level with NWS Spirit at the top of the NPL NSW ladder as they get ready to face off this weekend. And Preston returned to winning ways at the expense of the Knights. Matchweek 9 Review and 10 Preview!!

South Melbourne continues to struggle with form. Apia won a 7-goal thriller and set their sights on beating a fellow Australian Championship side in Matchweek 9. Plus, the Australian Cup returns with the 8 foundation clubs learning their fourth round fixtures.

Avondale proved to be too much for new boy Preston to end their impressive run in their return back to top-flight football. Meanwhile, Wollongong put 4 past their opponent and Sydney United 58 nearly caused an upset over the league leaders. Another big week of NPL NSW and Vic Football!
