Three Minute Thoughts

Acts chapter 2 is the springboard for what we know as the church. It's the time when the last promise of Jesus is fulfilled and realized. It's a pretty remarkable scene!

As we start Acts today we look at who wrote it, why he wrote it and the main message of the book.

The book of Mark ends with a peculiar little note. We'll talk about that part of Mark's account and how they came up with what's in the bible a little in today's episode.

When we have a really bad day we want to cower in fear or hide from the world or just go back to bed. Jesus however ran directly into his very bad day knowing exactly what that day meant. But more than that, it was through his very bad day that he actually made a way for you and me!

The bible is full of timely truths and powerful ideas but sometimes we need to see the bible as a means of preparing for what's happening in life. Chapter 14 of Mark's gospel account can be seen partially as a way that Jesus was getting his followers ready for what was soon to happen.

There are many who wonder if we're nearing the end of the world. Well the answer is yes, no and we don't know. Take a listen.

There are two main antagonistic groups that Jesus has to deal with. Here we meet both of them. Hope the description makes sense to you and shows what our reaction to the teachings of Jesus needs to be.

The Gospel of Mark tells the story of Jesus coming to power. When he steps on the scene right away at the beginning of the book we see Jesus wasting no time demonstrating his power. Here he does it with pigs, a bleeding woman and a sick child.

We take a few minutes in our time today to look at the idea of blasphemy and the importance of the Holy Spirit. Why didn't the people of Jesus' day understand who he was and why he was such an important part of their lives? Then we'll look quickly at the seeds, trees and how they remind us of Jesus.

Mark three is all about Jesus doing healings and selecting his disciples, but we're going to focus on the transition between chapters 2 and 3. This transition is really critical to the understanding of what the sabbath is and why it exists and why the people of Jesus' day had such a problem with it.

Mark's gospel account adds a fun little twist that many may not notice. Buried here in a healing moment, actually hidden in plain sight, is a nugget of really important information. This is a turning point for us to see the gospel differently. Jesus will address the real problems we face by dealing with sin before dealing with the felt need of physical healing.

The gospel of Mark is all about Jesus fulfilling the promises of the Old Testament by being all that was predicted. This episode is a quick introduction to Mark as a gospel writer and unpacking a small piece of chapter 1.
