Three Minute Thoughts

Jesus gives up his spirit and that would normally be the end, but we know different.

Jesus is arrested and tried but never runs or even tries to make an excuse.

Jesus is our great High Priest, but why do we need one? And what does that even mean?

Jesus reminds us that he will give us his spirit and that spirit will make all the difference in how we see the world around us and the challenges we face.

What kind of fruit do you produce? The things we do and how we act demonstrate the kind of vine to which we're attached. Does the fruit of your faith show itself through the words and actions of your life?

Jesus teaches lessons with words and actions. The cool part is that his actions match his words. Ours should as well.

Jesus makes his starting journey to what would be his ending moments. The people don't understand what's happening so they completely miss the point initially. Eventually they will see...

The people around Jesus didn't like what he had to say, so they dismissed him and even plotted to kill him. But he didn't waver because he knew he spoke the truth.

Jesus is teaching about contentment, purpose and what fills us in this chapter.

Do you want to be made well? It's a question that Jesus asks that is not his to answer.

Jesus talks to a woman who should have hated him about things that were very personal to her. He called out the truth that she didn't want to hear but in the end with a heart of repentance over her distance from God, she was able to find a closeness she had missed.

A verse that's all too familiar but do we really know what it means?

Jesus uses a sacred jar for a different purpose showing that we too can be used for something bigger than we realize.

A new beginning with a familiar start.

Peter reminds us as members of churches today that we have a responsibility to not sit on the sideline or take what the church gives without participating and getting involved in the life and ministry of what the church is doing.

Peter reminds us that loving one another will go a long way toward fixing the problems we see in our world, community and homes.

Peter reminds us that grace isn't what we deserve or what we can afford but what we receive regardless of our condition. Nothing can change the gracious way God sees you.

Peter reminds us that as believers in Jesus, we are living temples where God is glorified just by the way we live our lives. Our words, actions and even thoughts are to give God glory and honor in all we do.

Peter writes to encourage those scattered around the world that they might find hope and comfort in knowing that God is with them even though they are sent all around the world.

John's third letter is all about finding joy in some kind of interesting places. John explains how he finds joy in these different circumstances.

John's second letter is written to someone called the "elect lady" but who in the world is that? And what is the message that this "lady" needs to hear?

John completes his letter by showing us the purpose of the commands of God. They aren't to burden us, rather to show us the way we should go. Likewise the teachings of the Bible are designed to point us who Jesus is - real God and real man.

John reminds us that if we truly love God we'll be able to love those people around us who don't do and say the things we would like them to do and say.

John reminds us that we are children of God not because we've earned it but because God chose us and adopted us to be his own. That's love and that's the love we should show to one another, putting our own needs/wants aside and elevating the other person.

We need to stop making excuses for our sins. John reminds us here that sin is not ok. It's never been ok and when we excuse ourselves by saying that everyone sins, we lessen the weight of our sins and cheapen the power of the law making the gospel of little use.
