Thirsting Souls

In a world filled with distractions and uncertainty, Joshua 23 reminds us of the importance of staying spiritually awake. It’s a call to resist complacency, to stand firm in truth, and to keep our hearts anchored in hope. Rather than living in fear, we are urged to remain alert so that we can faithfully follow Christ and be ready for the opportunities He sets before us.

The gospel changes the way we use power. We use it to bring glory and honor to Christ, not to ourselves. The gospel frees you to live with otherworldly gentleness (1–2). The gospel empowers you with otherworldly strength (3–4b). The gospel compels you to total obedience (4c–6).

Look at John the Baptist's example in John 3 to see how humility increases joy!

God has given us immeasurable grace to help us grow in humility through the disciplines of grace.

Why is humility important, and how do we grow in it?

Jesus came to give us joy, and joy is a massive piece of the Christian life. Follow along as we see how Christianity is all about joy!

Sanctification is both an extraordinary and normal thing. It is extraordinary because God has to be involved, but it is supposed to be normal since Jesus demands it. Follow along as we look at this concept together from God's word!

Discipleship means following Jesus, but how do you follow Jesus as his disciple? Discipleship is obedience. Discipleship is mission. Discipleship is commitment.

Let's continue our study through Joshua! We pick it up in chapter 10 where a confederation of kings band together to break apart Joshua's military gains, but Yahweh wasn't going to let that happen. Not one word of Yahweh's words will fall!

According to Joshua, you can forsake God’s wisdom when… There is overwhelming evidence (4-5, 12-13). There is a compelling story (9-10). There is a spiritual testimony (9-11). But when can you break your word? When you're willing to face God’s discipline (20; 2 Samuel 21:1-2). When you're okay with dishonoring Yahweh (18-19).

Joshua 8 teaches us: God's power grants success. God's generosity satisfies his people. God's judgment sobers us.

In Acts 26, Paul argues that the Old Testament reveals the Christ's purpose. What is the purpose? Jesus suffered. Jesus died. Jesus saves.
