Each year at St. Aidan's we read this homily from the 2nd century during our Holy Saturday worship. This year, we're not able to celebrate this service together, but as we each prepare to celebrate Easter in our own homes, I offer up this homily for your devotions. In the early Christian monasteries, it was a regular practice to read and recite from the Book of Lamentations each year on Good Friday. Take a few minutes, and enter into the hopeful sadness of Israel's mourning, and hear echoed there the cries of humanity's hunger for the Savior. Hosanna! Save us, Son of David!

This devotional is intended to help us transition from Maundy Thursday into Good Friday. As most of us are unable to take part in a traditional service this year, we will not have the chance to observe the "stripping of the altar". I offer up this reflection as a way of moving deeper into your Holy Week observance. A blessed Triduum to you all. Fr. Lee
