There Will Be Duds

Odds and Ends: We celebrate our very small listening audience while going over our Spotify wrapped for the show. If you're reading this, dear audience, we luv u. Feature Film: To close out another year, we take all the good will from the original Black Christmas and throw it in the garbage as we cover the two remakes. Both bad for very different reasons, but which is worse? Is one dudlier than...

Odds and Ends: Christmas wishes and new year's resolutions; Nick talks about the newest Lanthimos picture, Bugonia; we talk about some unsung Brian Yuzna classics, shoutout the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and try to understand Ben Shapiro's high-IQ review of One Battle After Another Feature Film: From the director of A Christmas Story and Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, Black Christma...

Odds and Ends: The new Coke ad has us down yet another AI rabbit hole, but T.J.'s cat just wants to play catch with dad; we discuss the new Frankenstein adaptation by Guillermo del Toro, and ask why there aren't any hot lady monsters. Feature Film: For a cheeky lil Thanksgiving movie, we talk about Dances with Wolves, the best picture-winning movie that revitalized the western genre. It&#3...

Odds and Ends: We do a bit of a deep dive into a Zack Snyder fan song, and talk about Snyder v. Gunn: Dawn of Incels. Feature Film: We check back in with Stanley and talk about his romantic comedy, Dr. Strangelove. It's about a lot of idiots, discussed by some idiots. It's also anti-war, did you know he made anti-war movies? Far out, man. Next week's movie: Dances with Wolves (1990) Yo...

Odds and Ends: Avoiding the horror of social interaction at high school reunions Feature Film: We're closing out our month of horror with the odd anti-Dungeons and Dragons movie, Mazes and Monsters (get it?). Probably most notable for being featuring the first starring role of one Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, this movie takes a tragic real-life story that had nothing to do with DnD and makes it all a...

Odds and Ends: Nothing to see here, folks, move along... Feature Film: We're talking about a classic from one of the masters of horror, that being Scream and them being Wes Craven. I feel like this would be the perfect opportunity for me to be super meta in the description here and maybe break the fourth wall and talk to you directly. That's something I never do. Wait, does that count? Nex...

Odds and Ends: The whole gang is here this time, and we're fighting off the horrors of being old by talking about old Facebook trends and how boomers have infected social media. Feature Film: Peyton's pick for the month is the recent Clown in a Cornfield, an incredibly by the books slasher, until it isn't. We relate to the small townness of the movie, as well as the terrible law enforc...

Odds and Ends: We embrace our oldness and talk about important things like the weather, and that youngster George Harrison's new record All Things Must Pass; T.J. saw the new War of the Worlds that everyone was talking about when this episode was recorded. Good thing we release these right away so that's still relevant when this comes out! Feature Film: Our regular horrorspondent Chris brings in T...

Odds and Ends: It is TOTALLY spooky season for us, just as it is for you, dear listener. If you believe it in your heart, seasons can be year round! Odds and Ends: Giving dumb stupid old ads the what fer; we talk about Zach Cregger's newest horror slash comedy slash drama, Weapons. Feature Film: Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut, the very Charlie Kaufmany Synecdoche, New York. I had the thought to write some sort of heady, meta thing here as a sort of comedic parallel to the movie, but I don't feel like it. I've had some long...

Odds and Ends: T.J. brings up a lawsuit against the new movie Together that he may have some personal ties to... well, almost, he could have maybe sort of had some ties, but he doesn't, but that'd be cool or interesting if he did; inspired by the recent and decent superhero movies, T.J. checked out Thunderbolts (with an asterisk because ooooo!), and thinks it's also decent, but a littl...

Odds and Ends: T.J. shares some insider info about the newest woke movie, The Fantastic Four; T.J. talks about the newest iteration of Superman, while Nick talks about the newest iteration of The Last of Us; isn't it great just having continuous new iterations and adaptations and no original movies ever? Speaking of original movies... Feature Film: La Haine? Is that French for Heat? This is an...

Odds and Ends: Josh is back again, and we discuss how our feature film this week led to us crossing paths. We watched one of those dumb Netflix docks, the one about the poop cruise called Poop Cruise, and we have some things to say. Feature Film: The classic template detective movie is on the stand this week, though it's more of a template tailing perps and also a car chase movie. I don't...

Odds and Ends: This is sort of our anniversary episode! Meaning, it's near our anniversary and we did a trilogy, so you know, sort of. T.J. reworks song lyrics from his youth. Feature Film: We're talking about the recently trilogized 28 Blanks Later series, Weeks and all. Sorry, warts and all. Same thing. We pulled Ida back in for another episode, too, as we seem to do with our guests we t...

Odds and Ends: We had a little bit of time left in this one, so T.J. and Ida talk about the newest Final Destination movie. Feature Film: Meri Kurisumasu! Ida and Peyton wouldn't leave the voice call until we talked about the second Battle Royale movie, so here we are. A sequel that is impressive only in how it manages to take the worst qualities from the first movie and leave out all the rest...

Feature Film: Some of T.J.'s friends from a nerd ass weeb Battle Royale roleplay fan group he used to be in (real life - NOT CLICKBAIT) join the show to talk about the cult classic film itself. We get into the weeds on a lot of shit most people won't even have context for here. Even Nick! He said he had a good time though, so don't judge the rest of us on how bored he looks for 90% of...

Odds and Ends: T.J. wants to play another game, a game about games (and movies); we both did our homework, so we're able to talk about both Common Side Effects and Sinners! Feature Film: We talk about the final film by director Yasujiro Ozu, An Autumn Afternoon. We struggle through our issues with differing cultural norms and the overall okayness of it as we try to figure out what exactly make...

Odds and Ends: T.J. talks about an AI slop advertising campaign he's been subjected to; we almost talk about Sinners and we almost talk about Common Side Effects, but instead we just talk about the newest season of Black Mirror. Feature Film: We check in with David Byrne and Talking Heads again with their narrative feature, True Stories (some of which is based on true stories!). It's a chill hang...

Odds and Ends: T.J. talks about [REDACTED], which has been his Roman empire as of late; we coincidentally have both been watching some spy movies, probably inspired by this week's feature film. Yeah, definitely. Feature Film: We cap off another dud month with a dip back into the Breeniverse! Just as mind-boggling as the previous Breen screener we covered, both intentionally and unintentionally...

Odds and Ends: T.J. talks about his A Minecraft Movie experiences, and a potentially very... unfortunate cleanup job he had to do; we go over the most recent season of The White Lotus Feature Film: We make an attempt to parse the (literally) unintelligible Axe 'Em, which despite only being able to understand like 5% of what was going on, we manage to wring out the most thorough discussion of a fea...

Odds and Ends: In lieu of watching other movies, T.J. yells at clouds; since we're true gamerz, we talk about the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, even though we mostly talk about the Gamecube games Feature Film: We continue our dud month (which is also an accidental SNL month) with Adam Sandler's first movie, Going Overboard, even if he doesn't really want people talking about it. And for go...

Odds and Ends: We had a hard time coming up with an opening convo, so T.J. resorts to a classic starter; we both watched Mickey 17, the newest from director Bong; T.J. also watched Adolescence, like everyone else by this point. Feature Film: An insufferable comedy anthology movie with a very similar frame narrative to a different insufferable comedy anthology movie we covered on this show. We talk...

Odds and Ends: We talk about Harmony Korine's new experiment in griefing via film; T.J. saw the newest Paddington movie, and a new adaptation (sort of) of Breaking Bad Feature Film: We kick off another Dud month with the infamous Norbit, featuring some of the most irritating characters ever put to the screen. Even though T.J. has some weird affinity for the detestable Rasputia, queen of whores...

Odds and Ends: Our Oscars recap; we saw a gimmick movie; Nick questions T.J.'s Letterboxd top 4 Feature Film: We talk about our sorta St. Patrick's Day movie, Waking Ned Devine, another movie that feels like a fantasy world that in actuality is just a quaint UK town. It's a nice enough movie and all, but T.J. just wants to talk about the political and economic state of the world right...
