Jean Racine
Thebaid, or The Brothers at War
Set against the backdrop of Louis XIVs reign in France, a time celebrated for its literary brilliance as much as its military conquests, Racines La Thébaïde emerges as a poignant tragedy. Unlike the comedic works of Molière, this tale delves into the fierce conflict between brothers Eteocles and Polynices, ultimately leading to a devastating conclusion for all involved. This rendition begins with a biographical introduction of Racine, followed by the heart-wrenching drama that unfolds in Act 1. - Summary by Translator and ToddHW
