Our First Book Club Pick: The Guns of August 01.08.2020

In today's episode I am announcing the start of The Revisionist History Podcast Book Club (we'll shorten the name later). We'll do one historical book a month, with episodes covering parts of it each Saturday, so we can know the real history of a subject to better combat the myths. Our first book is Barbara Tuchman's World War One classic "The Guns of August." I hope you'll join us.

The More Things Change: Parallels Between the 1918 and 2020 Pandemic Response 29.07.2020

There are some astonishing similarities between the response to the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic and the COVID-19 pandemic today. In today's episode we look at some of those similarities.

President Trump Outrageously Revises History in Press Briefing 14.07.2020

We very rarely comment on current events, as this podcast focuses on history. Today, however, there was a case of some blatant (and ridiculous) revisionist history that demands a response.

Check Out the Bookish Podcast 03.05.2020

In today's brief episode we're not debunking myths, but rather inviting you to check out our other podcast, Bookish. If you love history you should be a reader, and if you're a reader you'll love Bookish. It can be found at anchor.fm/bookish.

Don't Believe the Coronavirus Deniers 18.04.2020

This bonus episode is a brief plea to all of you to not be taken in by the increasingly vocal coronavirus deniers on both social and mainstream media. This deadly global pandemic is no conspiracy.

Donald Trump and Revisionist History: A Special Throwback Thursday Episode 16.04.2020

We normally do one Throwback Thursday episode a month, but given current events it seems like an appropriate time to look once again at Donald Trump and revisionist history.

COVID-19 and Real-Time Revisionist History 05.04.2020

In today's episode, which I admit at the outset is a bit of a ramble, we look at an aspect of history unfolding every day as we watch: the effort by those in power to write the historical narrative of the COVID-19 pandemic in real-time.

Help Indie Bookstores During the COVID-19 Crisis 29.03.2020

We're taking a short break from history this morning to urge you to support the people who bring you history every day: your local independent booksellers. If you are a long-time listener, you know how important books are for our knowledge of history, and preserving the businesses that bring us the most diverse points of view, historically and otherwise, is critical during the current COVID-19 cri...

Myths About Global Pandemics of the Past (and the Coronavirus of the Present) 13.03.2020

Today's episode is both history and current events, because today we're looking at some myths about global pandemics of the past as well as debunking some about the current coronavirus, hopefully before they can become lodged in the historical record.

Vladimir Putin and the Re-Writing of Russian History 09.01.2020

In today's episode we're looking at a world leader who is systematically twisting history for his own ends: Vladimir Putin.

Donald Trump and Ignorance of History 05.01.2020

Today's episode looks at an issue that isn't exactly revisionist history, but one that certainly facilitates it. That issue is willful historical ignorance, specifically on the part of the current President of the United States.

Impeachment Does NOT Mean Removal 19.12.2019

Today's episode is a very brief educational rant for the countless people out there celebrating President Trump's removal from office following his impeachment today. Guess what? That's not how impeachment works.

Bonus Episode: The Patron Saint of Booksellers 07.12.2019

This is a bonus episode that dovetails with the most recent episode on reading history. 100 years ago, a woman opened a bookstore and became the advocate for writers she knew, including Hemingway, Joyce, and Fitzgerald. She is truly the Patron Saint of Booksellers...meet Sylvia Beach.

Presidents, Primaries, and the Twisting of History 07.09.2019

Today's episode comes sooner than I expected, and on a far different topic, because there is actually revisionist history in today's breaking news. Let's set that record straight.

In today's episode The Revisionist History podcast, we tackle a burning question in our national discourse today: was America founded as a Christian Nation?
