The Pet Parenting Reset

You asked for it!  There have been so many questions about HPP and while I do my best to field them, I decided to bring the expert to you to answer all of your questions. Billy Hoekman from Green Juju shook a good portion of the fresh-feeding pet parenting space up when he announced that HPP isn't the demon we thought it was.  This happened earlier in 2023 and I did a podcast about his announ...

Bryce and Kenzie of The BK Pets are on a mission to bring education and awareness to pet parents world-wide on feeding less processed foods. You already know this is my JAM!  I'm so excited for everything we talked about in this episode (including their stint at van life!) and everything I hope you can learn from it. In my opinion, holistic health for pets is the absolute best thing in the wo...

Dr. Carol Smeja is the creator of The MINE Pet Platter, which is the platter I have been using for Kim for about a year and a half now.  We spend so much time talking about WHAT to feed our pets and rarely ever talk about HOW to feed our pets, though it has a huge impact! I love getting deep into the science and psychology of animals, especially when it comes to feeding them. Carol helps us dive i...

I'd love to be more outdoorsy and adventurous but that's just not the season of life I'm in, so when I can bring in another person who IS adventurous with her dogs, of course, I'll make sure to get all the dirty details for you! Kara Hanrahan of Raw Paw Adventures takes her 3 big dogs hiking and off-roading and camping and anything else she and her husband think up!  There are...

After recording this episode, I had the pleasure of meeting Betsy Redmond and the team at Innovative Pet Lab at AHVMA and I just can't say enough great things about them and the work they are doing!  First of all, they are so dang smart and they truly want to make it easy and affordable to bring these testing kits to you and your pets.  As a pet health coach, I can take information and sympto...

It's the end of spooky season but we can't let it pass by without a throwback to the wonderful Layla Morgan Wilde explaining all about the myth surrounding black cats! I always think of the line from the movie Hocus Pocus "black cats, and witches and stuff!" ... but that's actually the farthest thing from the truth. Many ancient societies saw black cats as LUCKY! Enjoy the...

It is so common for us to get stuck in a cycle of going back to the vet for the same problems, getting prescribed medications, finding some relief for a period of time, but winding up right back in the vets' office for the same thing. It's a huge problem and one that our current sick care system is not equipped to deal with. That's where pet health coaches come in. We take what your...

I get more questions surrounding CBD and medicinal - or functional - mushrooms for dogs than any other topic covered on the show. That's why I'm so excited to have Sean Zyers from Earth Buddy talk to you today about full-spectrum hemp which we call CBD, functional and medicinal mushrooms, and tie it all together with gut health!  From the origin story of a 13 year old rescue dog with sei...

Anxiety is a much more complex issue than most of us give it credit for. It's not just "bad behavior" that we need to "train out" of our dogs.  Yes, there is quite a bit of science behind a positive reinforcement and slow desensitization strategy for training dogs with separation anxiety . . . .  BUT there are also physiological aspects of anxiety that we can not ignore. ...

I always love brining veterinarians on the show for a couple fo reasons. 1. I'm reminded of how hard their job truly is, and 2. They see things differently simply because of the volume of animals they see Dr. Hunter Finn joins me on today's episode to chat about the state of veterinary medicine, what it looks like moving forward, his top 5 RED FLAGS for pet parents, and more! Send us Fan...

"All disease begins in the gut." - Hippocrates As pet parents, we want to do what's best for our pets so that they can live long, happy lives. The truth is that our veterinarians are great for what they are trained to do, but there is still quite a bit that they don't know. That's why Animal Biome is on a mission to educate veterinarians about gut health, testing, and meth...

Most pet parents I speak with are still asking me about grain-free dog food and DCM. It's been years and the FDA closed its investigation in December 2022 with no results.  If I fed kibble, I'd still be worried too. It's like they just threw their hands up and said "I don't know!" Susan Thixton, Dr Karen Becker, and Steve Brown have a different view of what could be g...

Y'all know I'm picky about the products I use and what I share with my audience, so you know that I wouldn't highlight a brand that I didn't trust! Viva Raw has been a staple of my dogs diet for the past 2 years and I have no intent on changing that!  They are a small company, making food in small batches, who are transparent in their sourcing, process, and more!  Check out Viv...

If you haven't been to Super Zoo, well let me tell you, it is truly a ZOO! I've been back home for over a week and I'm still getting settled back in to my routine and getting caught up with everyone! Fortunately, I got Billy from Green Juju (and Kelley too!) to talk a little bit about their new foods, which I'm super pumped about, and in today's episode I'll tell you...

Mushrooms are such a hot topic in the human and pet worlds right now and it's important to get GOOD information before trying any supplement with you or your pets. There are very few companies that I believe are doing it "RIGHT" and REAL MUSHROOMS is one of the companies that I trust. Joni and Dr. Silver join me today to chat about mushrooms and how they can change the world!  Liste...

I don't know if we can ever be completely confident about the job we are doing as pet parents. I think it's something we hone over time, but something we will always work towards, especially with different animals in our lives. I do think that we can do lots of things to help build confidence, especially by learning new things and creating a team to help us. Shannon Cutts has a very uniq...

When I was a new pet mom, I did everything my vet told me to do . . . including feeding the pricey bags of food sold in her office. I had 6 cats and they all were on different foods, even some "prescription" foods for weight management. Fast forward and I now know that there is no "medicine" in those foods AND they have no requirements for additional feeding trials to prove eff...

Lab-grown (cultured cell) meat was just approved for sale to humans in June 2023 by the FDA. Of course, there are tons of questions, but we should also be concerned about what this may mean for pet food. I don't know about you, but when I see that Bill Gates is involved, I'd prefer to run the other way. Here are the links to everything discussed in todays epsiode: Human Food Made with Cu...

WARNING!! DO NOT use apps to hire people to care for your dog. Apps like Rover and Wag have been implicated in the neglect and even death of pets.  It's incredibly sad - and completely avoidable.  Learn why it's so incredibly important to vet your pet care providers BEFORE you hire anyone else to care for your beloved pets.  Alexa Rabini of Midful Dog Mom and Vegas Dog Moms joins me toda...
