The Paceline Cycling Podcast
The Paceline is a cycling podcast aimed at roadies, mountain bikers, commuters, cyclocross enthusiasts, those who grind gravel—indeed anyone who claims cycling for their own. The bicycle is more than a thing, it’s an issue. The Paceline also discusses the bike’s place in society. The hosts love bike gear so expect some banter about what works and what does not on the road and trail. The podcast on two wheels. No training wheels needed. The Paceline is hosted Patrick Brady and John Lewis, and is a production by The Cycling Independent.

#84: Which foot forward? Interbike, 100 Miles of Nowhere 14.09.2017
In our first VIQ (Very Important Question) we asked you, our audience, which foot you place forward when descending. We assumed most riders would indicate they put their left foot forward. Patrick is away in Tennessee working on a feature for Bicycling Magazine on Memphis. Memphis' fortunes have changed in the last few years and the city has made a huge investment in infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians. Patrick says this has made the city wholly more livable and infinitely more worth visiting. Watch for his feature in Bicycling next year. Fatty has invented a new segment we...
#82: The Punisher, a colonoscopy, Floyd's of Leadville 31.08.2017
Fatty had a meeting with a doctor that gave him an unusual frame of mind for this show. The colonoscopy made him hungry and maybe a little freer with his opinions. Some of those opinions regard his feelings about his performance at a new event called The Punisher. Apparently the final climb of the event was so tough that a majority of the fondo riders didn't even finish. According to Fatty, he fin...
#81: Gerard Vroomen, customer service, the eclipse 24.08.2017
So what do you do at the end of the season when you have massive fitness and all your goals achieved or finished? Fatty is busy compiling a new late-season race schedule now that he's flying, post Leadville. As cyclists, we've all experienced stuff breaking, right? That just happens, part of life, and such. The question before us today is how you deal with it. We've got a couple of stories of bik...

#79: Leadville, Leadville, Rapha and Leadville 11.08.2017
Fatty and Hottie (it's like Laurel and Hardy, only not) are in Leadville for the annual Leadville 100. They've unpacked, done some course recon and have taken their final rides ahead of the race. And now they are eating. We talk about those final preparations, Jonathan Vaughters' (name drop!) final training instructions. Seemingly the entire Fatty clan is either racing or providing support. The Br...
Tandem #01: Dream Chaser 04.08.2017
The idea behind the bonus Paceline “Tandem” podcast episodes is pretty simple: longform one-on-one conversations with people who love bikes. In this first episode, Fatty talks with Adam Lisonbee – a guy who’s been dreaming about and planning for the Tour Divide — a self-supported mountain bike race for the 2700 miles of the Great Divide. Fatty chats with Adam one week before Adam leaves for the ra...
#78: Leadville, Tour Divide, Saddle Drive, Interbike 04.08.2017

Fatty plays an excerpt of his interview with Adam Lisonbee about his preparation for and the re...
#77: Crashing, road diets, Dirt Rag celebrates 200 issues, ADHD 29.07.2017
Fatty crashed and got a big raspberry on his hip. Went down on a wet descent right by a spot cyclists call Hamilton Falls because Tyler Hamilton fell there during the Tour of Utah. The staff here thinks they want to avoid that road at all cost. In the fall, because bad thing always have to happen when you fall on a road ride, Fatty ruined his best bibs. The upside? Because they were Rapha, they ar...

Patrick even suggests that we stop asking riders if they are doping. Ha ha ha ha! Also, is it time to put Phil Liggett out to...
#75: Crusher in the Tushar, children's book author Scott Fitzgerald 13.07.2017
Fatty and Hottie went to Beaver, Utah, to partake in the wonderfulness known as the Crusher in the Tushar. Good suffering was had by all. Imagine an event that goes uphill more than downhill. Or don't. It doesn't sound easy, or fun. Fatty and Hottie interview organizer Burke Swindlehurst about the challenge, the attraction and the fun of the event. Last year, former bike shop owners Scott and Jani...
#74: Sagan's expulsion, stolen bikes, Armstrong's new blog/podcast 06.07.2017
With Peter Sagan's recent expulsion from the Tour de France, all of social media has blown up with whether or not he caused Mark Cavendish's crash and what the appropriate action, if any, was warranted. As our man Patrick put it, "Pinning all of the problems of that sprint on Sagan is like pinning all of Watergate on John Ehrlichman." Hottie talks about the time he sort of got Saganed (new verb, y...

#72: 15.06.2017
Everyone is back in their usual chairs this week, thank heaven. Fatty is just back from the Vision Relay, an event he's been waiting for all season, and frankly, we at the Paceline have been waiting for him to do. He and his team kicked butt, but not enough butts. Say that three times fast. Patrick interviews Jim Cummins and LeLan Dains to see if they've caught up on their sleep and to talk about...
#71: Dirty Kanza, Topanga Creek Outpost, new Ultegra 08.06.2017
Patrick is back from Dirty Kanza and while there may be no place like home, he says there's no place quite like Emporia. Fatty is away on business, so it's the duo of Pattie and Hottie (Patrick/Padraig is going to hate that.) for yet another show. Patrick fills us in on his experience riding the Half Pint—the 100-mile ride—and just how the town of Emporia went out of its way to welcome riders from...

Fatty tells his Daisy story in which he encountered a port-a-potty at a point when he had given up hope and very nearly his bowel. Patrick has been in Arkansas this week. He began with a vis...

We also discuss a few hormones that are involved and how much we dislike legs that throb after a hard ride. There's a new app called Rollout that helps you set up group rides or find group rides to join. Fatty talks to the developer Kevin Day. He comes to the conclusio...
#67: 11.05.2017
This week, we ask a question: Are you okay with changing a ride’s plan? What do you do when a ride goes off plan? Fatty encountered some serious wind on a ride and had to ask himself a question. And what about when work is out of control and you miss some rides? How does that affect your training? Are you adaptable? Jonathan Vaughters has a surprisingly philosophic outlook on that lost time. We dr...

We talk about the challenges of the work commute, from how to dress, cleaning up and changing and coworkers who don't comprehend adults on bikes. For our big interview, we talk to Mark Johnson,...
