Elihu who? A new character emerges in the book of Job to answer both the friends and Job. His name is Elihu. Is he just a young punk or a Holy Spirit-filled man of God? The twins dive into these questions, both celebrating Elihu and questioning his motives. Listen in!

We could sing a true hymn to the achievements and glories of man. They truly are spectacular. But where is wisdom to be found? What map can lead us to it? The twins look at modern day human achievement, but find wisdom nowhere in it. Instead, they define wisdom biblically and point to Christ.

Job has finally arrived to the Mt. Everest of his faith and his theology. The only words he wants inscribed with an iron tool in lead are these words before us today. The twins push back against the critics and any claim that these words are not about Christ and his resurrection. They rejoice with the disciples on the road to Emmaus that the one in whom Job hoped has come!

Job responds to the accusations of the friends, but not just to the friends. He actually takes his pain to God in a special kind of prayer called lament. The twins lament the lack of lament in the church and in the lives of the sufferer, but more than that, the twins ask the listeners to pray daring prayers to the Father who has brought them to himself in Christ.

Job has already said that he’d rather rest in hell than continue on with his current condition - a ridiculous thing to say. Job’s friends are moved to speak into this untruth and misery. In this podcast, the twins characterize the friends, criticize their approach and theology, and then, finally, they look at what it means to be a good friend to the sufferer.

Finally, after an almost deafening seven day silence, Job opens his mouth. He has lost all decorum and inhibition as he begins to curse, calling for the undoing of God’s creation. The twins lament Job’s great lament, moving towards what it means for a believer to grieve and suffer through Word and prayer.

Job has three good friends. Right when Job needed them most, they show up in his life to sit with him in the Ashes. All of this sparks a discussion between the twins about the nature of true friendship today. Are friends too disposable to us? Do we even have friends who will show up in the hard times?
