All individuals who receive their salaries from the public service are entitled to medical aid subsidies, which allow them to use private hospitals. These subsidies amount to R70 billion. If a policy were introduced requiring everyone to use public hospitals instead, that R70 billion would immediately be redirected to the public healthcare system," says Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi.
